Furthermore, the individual development steps are ensured by simulation and validation.
E.E: What is the state of the market where you are currently active?
The market environment for R&Dservices has been encouraging recently and we benefited from an increase in project assignments and successful project acquisition efforts. However, we also realized some temporarily project postponements. The sudden discontinuation of subsidies to promote the sale of electrically powered vehicles – the so-called environmental bonus in Germany – at the end of 2023, resulted in a weaker domestoc market. In addition, the planned ban on combustion engines from 2035 on has begun to be questioned in political discussions throughout Europe. In China, the market for hybrid vehicles has been growing noticeably faster than the market for battery-only electric cars since 2023, while the market share of electrified vehicles in the USA has stagnated at below 20%. Based on this market trends, decisions regarding future R&D projects were temporarily postponed.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
Almost 90% of our revenues, representing the largest portion by far, come from the automotive sector. The key drivers of the Bertrandt business model are innovations in environmentally friendly individual mobility, automated and connected driving, and the growing variety of battery electric vehicle models. We also prioritize digitalization and resource efficiency as cross-industry megatrends. We are an active contributor to innovations both in the mobility and non-mobility sectors and never lose sight of customer needs and changing market conditions.
E.E: What are the most innovative products/services marketed?
We do not have our own products. Our aim is to support our customers in the development of innovative and sustainable technological solutions. The current focus is on services related to electrics/electronics and IT solutions.
E.E: What estimations do you have for 2024?
One of our main targets is to establish Bertrandt as a key engineering services supplier in different transnational projects. These projects, with a lifetime of decades should provide a strong basis for the growth of the Bertrandt Group and become a pillar of our activities.
We have extensive expertise in international and national projects. We are committed to support our customers also in their international locations and to manage projects across national borders. This enables us to deliver added value and ensure our competitiveness. Around 25% of our employees already work at international locations such as Europe, USA, China, or in our newest subsidiary in North Africa (Morocco). We expect to continue to grow above market and to further strengthen our market position organically and through acquisitions.
