GAPTEC Electronic was founded in 2010 and focuses on market demands and serving the market’s needs. It specializes in isolated and non-isolated voltage transformers (AC-DC, DC-DC, POL and LED drivers), supplying a selected range of converters and modules with typical isolation and industrial voltages as well as currently common terminal pin assignments. Their portfolio ranges from 0.1 Watt up to 1000 Watts (DC-DC) and from 1 Watt up to 1000 Watts (AC-DC).
Easy Engineering: Tell us about some of the most successful project/projects from this year.
GAPTEC: Industrial applications continues to be one of our most loyal field of customers worldwide. But this year we were also able to develop and increase other industries with our products. Customers of equipment for renewable energy, railway and medical applications have decided to use our products. However, one of the biggest growths was in the renewable energy sector. Having learned in 2022 how quickly otherwise reliable sources of gas and oil can suddenly dry up, many countries are now striving for energy self-sufficiency. As a result, we have been able to generate a lot of new business.
E.E: What were the challenges that you encountered?
GAPTEC: The challenges have remained the same over the years. Switching from a discrete to a modular design is much more than just replacing components. In fact, the switch has to take place not only in the device itself but, more importantly, in the minds of the engineers and product managers. The thought “never change a running system” is unfortunately often deeply anchored in the company philosophy and leads to innovative approaches being thwarted.
E.E: How did you overcome the challenges?
GAPTEC: We learned in the past that we don’t have to talk to purchasing, but to be there for the engineers and support them with helpful support that will save them – before all – time and of course help them save money. Modular solutions are definitely an alternative and they come completely certified. So, to speak plug & play.
E.E: What ranges of products/solutions helped the beneficiary in the project/projects?
GAPTEC: We were able to help many of our customers with the classic problems of an internal power supply and control electronics. Sometimes it was the space requirement, other times the excessive heat generation and influence on neighbouring components. Last but not least: the lead times are currently the most crucial thing. So far, we were able to maintain our fast lead-times and that guarantees the engineers a maximum of flexibility.
E.E: How were these products/solutions used to optimize the client’s business?
GAPTEC: Discrete boards are often the Achilles’ heel of a product, not only during operation, but already during planning, certification, and installation. With our components, which all represent that before mentioned plug & play solution, we relieve the customer of many worries, which he now no longer has and can thus concentrate again on the important things of his product.
E.E: What innovative features do the products / solutions have?
GAPTEC: The majority of our products are successfully certified, so our customers don’t have to worry about that. In operation, we see major advantages over the traditional discrete design. Our components are often smaller, more durable, and more efficient. For example: our switching regulators (POL) are featuring an efficiency of up to 97% and are the almost perfect replacement for the standard linear regulators (LM78). Furthermore, ultra-wide input range and high isolation (up to 10kVDC) are very interesting for a lot of our customers.
E.E: What products / solutions are you going to launch in the future?
GAPTEC: In the future, we will not only continue to improve the performance range and reliability of our products, but also focus more on customized solutions and availability. In the future, we want to continue to contribute to enabling our customers to respond even faster and more agile to the market with our components.
E.E: How will these products / solutions help future clients?
GAPTEC: Existing and future products from us will be even smaller/efficient, more reliable (certified) and less expensive.
E.E: What are your estimations for the end of the year?
GAPTEC: We see a further increase in the demand for modular power supplies. More and more customers are accepting the benefits of the new and improved converters/modules and power supplies for AC-DC and DC-DC applications, and we are seeing that on a global level.
