e.battery systems develops and produces customer-specific batteries for electric vehicles, construction machinery and industrial plants as well as energy storage systems for industry and trade.

e.battery systems is an Austrian battery manufacturer with the aim to create a sustainable future in the field of energy and mobility by research, develop, and produce batteries for different electromobility applications. The product portfolio of the Austrian company varies from standard battery systems for a wide range of applications, from home storage for rooftop solar energy to battery systems for electromobility. The company is a start-up with history. The idea to work on the battery of the future matured from the progress of the family business that has existed for over 20 years.

All started in 2019 with the first battery pack. Now in 2021 various standard systems can be offered.

Now batteries of small single cells to an 800-volt performance can be offered. e.battery systems uses a modular battery system to improve, range, charge time and mass production potential. Christopher Schöpf clarifies, “For example, the batteries for electric vehicles need to be constructed with non-flammable materials, in the field of aviation we need to work with very light material. As well as different space requirements for the battery can be met as we can construct our modules as pleased by the application”.

One battery for all requirements

Battery Management Systems

And no lithium-ion battery comes without a Battery Management System, because the multilevel electronic system ensures safety, extends the battery’s lifespan and improves its performance. To do this, it measures every battery parameter, breaks the circuit if necessary and optimizes capacity usage during charging and discharging.

These specific BMS kits provide an ideal basis for prototype construction and the production of small series. Together with cell monitoring modules, the kit maps all battery management and safety functions. The BMS modular system is the development basis for tailor-made battery management systems on an industrial scale.

The niche and highly technological world of battery research and development may be beyond the understanding of the man on the street, but its application affects almost everyone. Energy Storage Systems

In respect of the environment the company puts emphasize in creating a small C02 footprint as possible. With second-life concepts, used batteries are given a second life that makes them usable for up to 10 years longer. For example, the company uses exactly this concept for building energy storage systems Oftentimes, used electric car batteries can still perform at 80% of their capacity. Second-life use enables us to upcycle these batteries, such as in energy storage systems for solar or wind facilities.

More precisely speaking they developed a system based on buffer batteries with suitable converters varying from 30 kW and several hundred kilowatts in size. Depending on the area of application, the operation may be fully automatic, or additional energy may be released based on start commands from machines and devices. What we use to store energy are so-called second-life modules. For example, used batteries originating form electric cars. With this specific technology we can upcycle the life of batteries and can contribute to a positive ecological footprint. The best part is that this solution can be installed in no time and works without an expensive upgrade to the mains connection and the associated costs. It can be combined with various solar installations and wind generators, as well as with fuel cells or for hydrogen production. Depending on the size, our staff can install an external powerhouse or single or small rows of cabinets.

With the use of second-life modules it is possible to combine the entire product cycle from development, production, and testing to recycling and disposal under one roof, which makes it easy for to keep distances short and costs low.
