Interview with Jerzy Piescikowski, CEO of GRYFTEC Embedded Systems.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Jerzy Piescikowski: We offer customized solutions to bring new and re-engineered products to the market, mainly for the marine, railway and automotive industries.

Our portfolio includes services in the areas of:

  • Embedded systems design, development, engineering
  • Testing
  • Software development
  • VHDL/FPGA design
  • Obsolescence engineering

From choosing the microprocessor, making drivers, complete microcontroller modules, firmware/software, and libraries for client’s applications, to documenting and prototyping systems, we provide our clients with support at any stage of the development process.

E.E: What’s the news about new services?

J.P: Due to the rapid technology advancements and changing market conditions such as shorter product lifecycles, and increasing complexity, it was necessary to provide clients with a solution that would help them manage the problem of obsolescence (aging equipment and technologies). It’s a critical aspect that affects industries such as transportation, energy, defense and aerospace which offer products with a long lifetime.

To ensure the availability of systems and prolong their lifespans, we offer various solutions. We adapt a product/system that is no longer available or unsupported by the manufacturer to a new platform, improve it and make it work on a new operating system or with new peripherals, while maintaining the functionality of the system.

For the products without any documentation or technical specification, which is a common occurrence, we offer product analysis to recreate project documentation for future development. Furthermore, we ensure that the recreated documentation adheres to industry standards and best practices.

Outsourcing obsolescence engineering allows companies to save time and resources and reduce costs, ensuring stable growth. This approach helps detect potential risks, extend the lifespan of their products and systems, and to keep them competitive in the market.

E.E: What are the ranges of services?

J.P: As mentioned, we focus on delivering tailored solutions to meet the specific needs of our clients. Our comprehensive service portfolio spans high quality embedded solutions.

Our team of developers excels in embedded software development in general, we cover a wide spectrum of embedded software needs.

Embedded testing services – To ensure the crucial issue of embedded systems quality, our team offers comprehensive testing services: test concept, design, automation, execution, and test management to deliver robust solutions.

Jerzy Piescikowski, CEO of GRYFTEC Embedded Systems

Redesign and refactoring of embedded solutions, the process of detail analyses that allows our clients to optimize and upgrade their existing solutions to modern standards, improve functionality, effectiveness and reliability.

Reverse engineering, including documentation, the strategic aspect for ensuring the ability to continue development of existing products or systems.

GUI and HMI design and development, the technical expertise in combining user experience and technology, creating interfaces that increase the ease of use and effectiveness.

Obsolescence engineering, an important aspect of the systems development and maintenance. We provide services that help prolong the lifespan of our client’s products and systems.

These are just a few areas of expertise that exemplify our commitment to solving real challenges for our clients.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

J.P: The embedded industry is experiencing an increase in demand for solutions that concern the automotive market like vehicle connectivity, advanced driver-assistance systems or electromobility solutions for hybrid and electric vehicles. These systems play a key role in the automotive industry because of the strict regulations concerning safety, emission and economy regulations.

The market is evolving at a rapid pace due to applications in AI technology, smartphones, and driver support systems. Smart electronic devices have become essential products in people’s daily lives. Almost every electronic device contains a microcontroller and a microprocessor. The transformation is inevitable and must have in mind, that soon the AI can generate software automatically on a much bigger scale. However, I assume that due to the task specification, cooperation with hardware, specific and constantly changing working environment, the scale of this process in the embedded systems industry will be less noticeable. The role of the developer in the software development process is still integral and crucial, but it will evolve, and will need to adapt to the changing conditions.

Furthermore, the market is shifting towards complex, automated solutions and energy-efficient electronic devices due to growing awareness of the environmental state. The systems are created according to sustainable growth practices to reduce waste, enhance efficiency and expand the functionality of electrical devices.

Thus, the forecast for the embedded market is very optimistic. We make efforts to provide advanced technology solutions and excellent services that will respond to these challenges posed by today’s market.

E.E: What are the most interesting projects you currently work on in your company?

J.P: Our engineers engage in a range of projects. Their contributions affect solutions in industries such as the rail, marine, automotive and industrial automation.

Currently, the most interesting project in development, is a simulation that is necessary to test a device that controls the operation of a hybrid drive combining a diesel engine and electric propulsion used on recreational yachts. The simulation allows for testing the control device in a variety of scenarios, including changing power, speed, load and fuel consumption. This ensures that the device is ready to work in every situation.

A different project is focused on software development to improve the quality and cleanliness of gas combustion in engines by analyze so called knocking combustion. This is a common issue in combustion engines, where the combustion process takes place in a non-controlled way, leading to unwanted effects and potential engine damage. Our software will be used to identify these irregularities, and help to introduce necessary changes that will improve the emissions quality.

Our team is eager to take on new technically challenging projects, and develop new solutions.

E.E: What estimations do you have for the future?

J.P: We aim to grow and develop as a service and consulting company. We’re open to new partnerships and business opportunities. Whether it would involve exploring new markets or industries, working on new products or adding new services to our portfolio, we are open to all opportunities.

The concept of sustainable development, evolving technology, need for optimization, expanding functionality and improving efficiency of electrical devices and creating solutions that will extend its lifetime, these are just a few issues that the industry’s needs to cope with. That’s what our clients require, and the direction of major producers we need to actively respond to.

We stay focused and true to our core values to deliver high-quality services to our clients.
