Interview with Paolo Zunino, CEO of GTS Group.
Easy Engineering: A brief description of the company and its activities.
Paolo Zunino: GTS operates 2 factories in Italy; in recent years major investments have been made to improve production both in terms of capacity and quality to comply with the highest standards and requirements, always in line with sustainability goals. In a continuous effort to support customers’ growth and development, in 2010 GTS purchased and renovated a factory in Romania. In 2015 we opened a new factory in Belgium, a step forward in Europe in view of a general international development. At the moment we make business with many countries in Asia and South America. We’ve recently opened branches also in Brazil and Thailand, which enhanced our presence in Asian and South America markets. A dynamic company, GTS is engaged in several projects through which new gases and new applications are developed.
E.E: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
P.Z: GTS produces natural gases granting a quality and reliable offer to several market sectors like aerosol, foaming, packaging, welding, glass, refrigeration, construction, food, industrial, refining, maritime, energy and many other fields.
E.E: What’s the news about new products?
P.Z: GTS recently introduced a new smart, sustainable, and efficient production for high purity and competitive natural gases that respect the environment. Through a distillation plant operating on R290 heat pumps powered by a 1MW solar plant, GTS creates natural gases with a completely sustainable CO2 footprint, joining the change towards a greener world. GTS products offer cutting-edge performance without compromising the environment, reducing Scope 3 emissions.
E.E: What are the ranges of products?
P.Z: GTS core range of products contains Propane (R290), iso-Butane (R600a), n-Butane (R600), Blends (R433-R436), Propylene (R1270), Aerosol Blends, Food Grade (E944-E943b-E943b) and several industrial blends (propane/butane/propylene).
E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active? / What can you tell us about market trends?
P.Z: Most of the markets where GTS is active (aerosol, welding, industrial) are in their best maturity, while some other ones (refrigeration, foaming, packaging) are in very strong expansion due to the new “sustainability” regulations that are replacing Hydrofluorocarbons (cause of the global warming) with the green natural Hydrocarbons (where GTS plays a worldwide leading role).
E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?
P.Z: GTS most “innovative” product is propane (R290) beyond grade 3.5, with minimum moisture and non-condensable gas content. Innovative in terms of production method. GTS R290 is the sole with a sustainable CO2 footprint thanks to GTS distillation plant implemented by R290 HEAT PUMPS, powered by a 1MW solar plant.
E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?
P.Z: Thanks to all above mentioned reasons, we are very optimistic on a bright future for GTS!
