GAPTEC Electronic was founded in 2010 and focuses on market demands and serving the market’s needs. They are specialized in isolated and non-isolated voltage transformers (AC-DC, DC-DC, POL and LED drivers), supplying a selected range of converters and modules with typical isolation and industrial voltages as well as currently common terminal pin assignments. 

The company’s portfolio ranges from 0.1 Watt up to 1000 Watts (DC-DC) and from 1 Watt up to 1000 Watts (AC-DC). 

ISO 9001:2015 certification, long-standing cooperation between certified manufacturing facilities in China and Taiwan and their electronics’ development team together with design engineers guarantees powerful and economical standard and custom-made products. A select product portfolio guarantees highest quality standards (UL62368, UL 60950, EN 50155, UL 60601) and maximum flexibility offering short lead-times at a low cost. 

GAPTEC Electronic will continue to extend its product range tailored to the industrial electronics industry while keeping an eye out for new and innovative power-saving products. It guarantees the supply of all fully designed products well beyond the standard product cycle times. When re-ordering products, customers can rest assured that they will obtain a product that is 100% compatible and meets the same quality standard as the previously supplied unit. Interview with Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Michael Altfeld, Managing Director at GAPTEC Electronic GmbH & Co. KG.

Easy Engineerig: What are the main areas of activity of the company? 

Michael Altfeld: Our main areas / markets that we are focusing on are: 

  • Industry UL60950 / UL62368;
  • Railway EN50155;
  • Medical UL60601;
  • Telecom;
  • Photovoltaic.

We are working together with selected global distribution partners and we are focusing on the design-in process. 

E.E: What’s the news about new products? 

M.A: We are constantly reviewing the market and its needs. Especially the contact to our clients and their feedback is a very important source for us to steer into the right direction to predict future innovations. We are offering a selected product selection. 

We believe in quality over quantity. With over 400 different series we are diversified enough to offer alternatives for all kinds of products. 

E.E: What are the ranges of products? 

M.A: Our portfolio ranges from 0.1 Watt up to 1000 Watts (DC-DC) and from 1 Watt up to 1000 Watts (AC-DC). We offer products for the following product categories: AC-DC, DC-DC, POL and LED drivers 

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active? 

M.A: The power supply market is still recovering from the last two and a half years. Customers remain cautious. Forecasts for the future are vague. Too many uncertainties make the situation rather unstable and unpredictable. The ongoing component shortage plays its role on top of all. Basically, however, the mood is very positive and the forecast situation for 2023 looks very good again. 

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends? 

M.A: The market for power supply with low output power is expected to grow. The high adoption of power supply with low output power in the telecommunications and consumer electronics applications contribute to the rapid growth of the said market. Renewable energy applications such as photovoltaic and e-mobility as well as IOT will play a major role in the future. 

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed? 

M.A: Currently the most important thing is lead-time. We are seeing lead-times up to 80 weeks and more. The market is in desperate need to keep the production going. So, it’s not so much about innovation right now, but about availability and competitive pricing. 

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2022 

M.A: The market picks up again. As things stand, we will achieve our goals for the current year. Due to our numerous distributions worldwide, the volatility in certain markets is no longer so important. If you want to be local, be local.
