INTERVIEW WITH AEE SUISSE

As the umbrella organization of the economy of renewable energies and energy efficiency, AEE SUISSE represents the interests of 32 industry associations and around 35,000 companies. It represents the interests of its members in the political context. It informs, sensitizes and mobilizes decision-makers and actively shapes the economic and energy policy framework – on national and cantonal level. In this way, it creates more investment and planning security for its members.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity?

AEE SUISSE: AEE SUISSE advocates for suitable political framework conditions that will lead Switzerland into a sustainable energy and climate future. In concrete terms, we do political work – lobbying. We actively accompany political affairs in energy policy, climate policy and economic policy and bring in the concerns of our members. We also support forward-looking energy legislation at the cantonal level. With our sections we are represented in 16 cantons. More to come. Our core topics are: Renewable Energies, Energy Efficiency, Building Envelope and Building Technology, Energy Storage, Efficient Networks, Efficient Use of Fuels, Mobility, Applications and Devices, and Planning and Financing.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

AEE SUISSE: Currently topical are the parliamentary initiative “Girod” and the decree on energy and electricity legislation. These are complex issues that we are working on with and for our members. This year, there will be two more sessions of the Renewable Energies Parliamentary Group, to which around 70 politicians from all parties belong. With our three initiatives, we also promote professional exchange within industries and also with society. The Forum Energiespeicher Schweiz (FESS) and the Wärme Initiative Schweiz (WIS) each organize roundtables for the exchange between industry and science, Mission Zéro holds a networking event this fall and is in the process of planning the second national Climate Day in 2022.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

AEE SUISSE: This year, for the first time ever, more heat pumps were sold than oil heating systems. A success for our industry! This shows that we are moving in the right direction: towards 100% renewable energy and more energy efficiency! Our industries are well positioned for the future: jobs will be created, innovations will be brought forth, investments will be made. A growing market. The economy needs to focus on renewable energies and energy efficiency. Those who have not already done so should definitely align their activities accordingly now at the latest in order to remain marketable in the long term. But the road to net zero in 2050 is still long. To achieve this goal, Switzerland needs clear and binding guard rails. We are committed to achieve this – every day anew.
