INTERVIEW WITH AGRIVOL

Agrivol Srl is an Italian start-up working in the field of robotics for agriculture. Its main goal is to design and sell brand new solutions for the agricultural world. The agricultural context is studded with problems linked to intensive exploitation of the environment. The aim of Agrivol is to face many of those problems in order to achieve a more sensitive, eco-friendly and productive land use. The company’s vision is to affirm in the world market with a brand able to evoke sustainable agriculture, from crops not contaminated by chemicals to the usage of sustainable machinery. An ecological transition of this magnitude is strongly linked to innovation, both in technologies and in the processes.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

AGRIVOL: Agrivol, with ARIES Sistemi partnership, is active in spreading technologies, both infrastructural and automation, ready to be deployed in the agricultural context. Using both ICT technologies and sensory networks and Cloud technologies, this allows monitoring and control micro-environmental conditions of the agricultural context. From these measurements, it is possible to gather data through which is possible to create previsional models that will be used to increase productivity.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

AGRIVOL: Agrivol R&D department is focusing on the engineering of an innovative Rover, able to work for several agricultural applications in complete autonomy. Through a brand new modular architecture, the Rover is able to re-configure in order to adapt itself for different applications without particular effort from an end-user point of view. The Rover is equipped with 4 electric engines, one for each wheel, giving it a full traction system. The Rover is powered by a Li-ion battery pack and a photovoltaic panel placed on top of the machine giving it a proper autonomy.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

AGRIVOL: The products of Agrivol range from robotics and automation for biological agriculture, a first prototype has been engineered and is about to be developed and starting from this prototype, a set of different sizes and applications are planned to be developed and deployed.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

AGRIVOL: The agricultural market is an emerging market, in Italy and the EU, for automation and robotics. The main reference market is the biological market which is still growing and where there is a lot of space for making business.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

AGRIVOL: In the past decades, biological agriculture had a constant increase worldwide. Growth rates have favored its spread, allowing it to quickly become one of the most influential areas of primary production. The areas of application indicated are those in which it is assumed that the introduction of a technologically advanced automated solution can be economically advantageous.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

AGRIVOL: The most innovative products are related to the robotics for agriculture, where automation meets the requirements of the traditional agriculture.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2022?

AGRIVOL: In mid 2022 we are planning to have a first rover prototype for biological agriculture, where we are planning to use it over several types of crops: different types of salad, lettuce, artichokes, broccoli, fennel. We already have several customers that are interested in the applications and that are ready to prepare an experimental field where we can test the validity and performance of our solution.
