INTERVIEW WITH AMPNER

Ampner provides products and services for connecting renewable energy sources to the grid. The company is based in Vaasa, Finland, which is the largest energy technology concentration of the Nordic countries and known for strong know-how in power electronics.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

AMPNER: The company designs and manufactures string inverters capable of operating in demanding conditions in photovoltaic power plants and battery energy storage systems globally.

Ampner also creates smart solutions for managing, testing and assuring the quality of a variety of renewable energy sources. The company designs, calculates and simulates electrical connections to the grid, whatever the energy source: wind, the sun, water, battery energy storage or biomass.

Our customers include utilities, developers, EPCs and system integrators of renewable energy.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

AMPNER: Ampner has recently launched Ampner ACETM 300 string inverter family, providing world’s most powerful string inverters for photovoltaic power plants and battery energy storages. With the maximum power of 300 kW, robust design for outdoor use and very flexible input options, the inverters are designed for providing maximum yield in utility-size installations in environmentally challenging sites.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

AMPNER: The current inverter models are designed for 1500 Vdc and operate at 600-690 Vac.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

AMPNER: Both solar power and battery energy storage market are growing fast, even 20% per year, depending on the application and country.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

AMPNER: Renewable energy is required for fighting against the climate change. The European Union has announced the target to become carbon neutral by 2050 and has implemented a recovery plan with 800 billion € stimulus package partly allocated for sustainable solutions.

In addition, available land for solar power plants and energy storages is becoming scarce, which means that the new installation sites become more difficult. For example, installations are being planned on floating sites, mountainous areas or deserts, where the robust and reliable ACE 300 inverters fit extremely well.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

AMPNER: We are very proud of our innovative ACE 300 inverters, which have been designed with flexibility and reliability in mind. For instance, the ACE 300 PV model is compatible with all solar module types, which means that our customers can use the latest high power solar modules. The inverter input options have been chosen so that our customers will have as versatile alternatives as possible to design the cabling infrastructure, providing flexibility for their design teams. In addition, Ampner has paid a lot of attention in the internal structure of the inverters, with carefully selected and reliable components. All these factors in turn lead to lower LCOE (levelised cost of energy) for our customers.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2022?

AMPNER: For Ampner the 2022 will be an interesting year. We anticipate seeing a lot of activity in the energy storage area as the customer inquiries are increasing and many renewable energy providers will include storage capacity in their plants, either for peak shaving or storing excess production. As Ampner can provide inverters for both PV plants and energy storages, based on similar design philosophy, we can support our customers in building hybrid solutions with reliable solar power production and energy storage with high yield.
