BW PACKAGING SYSTEMS: In 2021, BW Packaging Systems will continue to roll out new packaging innovations focused on improving ease of operation and machine flexibility. Additionally, there is a big focus on sustainable packaging solutions whether that is through alternative materials, energy efficient solutions or working through the value chain to identify companies to partner with to advance sustainability.

Some of the more notable, recent innovations introduced during the PACK EXPO Connects virtual trade show in November, include:

  • Accraply: Modular upgrade for Trine Roll-Fed Labelers;
  • BW Flexible Systems: Hayssen ISB vertical form-fill-seal bagger;
  • BW Integrated Systems: Maximus mid-speed case palletizer;
  • Pneumatic Scale Angelus: CB50C counter-pressure integrated canning line;
  • Synerlink: SNAPCUT cutting tool for PET cups and multipacks.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

BW PACKAGING SYSTEMS: The range of products we can package is very broad. BW Packaging Systems provides packaging machinery and services for a range of materials and package types including bags, bottles, cans, cups, labels, and secondary packaging applications.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

BW PACKAGING SYSTEMS: In the markets mentioned (food, beverage, personal care, household, pharmaceutical and other industries) we provide primary and secondary packaging solutions as well as full-line, integrated solutions. We also support CPGs that are actively searching for recommendations on sustainable packaging solutions. In 2020, we helped multiple Fortune 500 companies implement biodegradable, recyclable, and reusable packaging solutions at their desired scales of production.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

BW PACKAGING SYSTEMS: There are several mega trends that stand out but first, sustainability is arguably the most important and top of mind when we are designing solutions.  Second, hygiene and safety are increasingly important and especially took priority this past year along with smart, connected remote equipment. Another megatrend that we see is that brands are under more pressure to deliver unique, differentiated packaging options that expresses the consumers’ persona, whether that is through the packaging design such as the rise in slim or sleek beverage cans or functional beverages with healthier, dietary options, or convenience packaging for the on-the-go consumer. OEMs plays a big part in helping brands determine which package will best meet the customer’s needs. BW Packaging experts often write their opinions on top market trends via our Packed With Expertise blog. Typically, these include market-specific insights, opinions, and advice on best practices.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

BW PACKAGING SYSTEMS: For 2020, our most innovative products were the ones provided under the third question. In 2021, we will continue to release innovative packaging solutions based on customer requests and opportunities we’ve identified in the market. We’ll be sharing some of these innovations at PACK EXPO Las Vegas in September. In addition to BW Packaging Systems’ innovations, our company is committed to supporting CPGs and sustainable packaging suppliers in launching their own innovative products. Through our relationships, we help our customers create positive change within their circles of influence.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2021?

BW PACKAGING SYSTEMS: In 2021, we estimate that the packaging industry will become more connected than ever before. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our team members discovered new and creative ways to stay connected with our customers by providing improved technical support via digital tools. Later this year, we will release a new solution that ties all these insights together in a convenient, accessible portal for our customers.

Also, we expect that the packaging industry will continue to advance sustainability with innovative solutions. Most CPGs have stated ambitious sustainability commitments, which they hope to achieve over the next 5-10 years. We’ve already seen multiple early success stories in this regard because our company is providing the solutions to achieve these stated commitments.
