INTERVIEW WITH CHIPS 4 LIGHT

Chips 4 Light supplies and integrates their specific light source entirely according to your requirements – whether as a standard solution or as a customer-specific project. The company supports companies looking for customized optoelectronic components in desired quantities, with long-term availability and individual specifications.

Their offer includes high quality LED chips, detector chips, LEDs and laser products over a wide range in different power classes from ultraviolet to infrared and also in white.

As extended services, Chips 4 Light offers customers characterization of laser diodes and sorting of LED chips onto various carriers as well as long-term storage. Their products are particularly suitable for applications with a high demand for miniaturization in sensor technology, industry, medicine and much more … today already and for innovations of tomorrow. Wherever optical precision plays a role, the company has the right lighting solution for you.

Interview with Beate Jungwirth, Marketing Communications Manager at Chips 4 Light GmbH.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Beate Jungwirth: We mainly focus on applications in

  • Industry: Position detection – encoders, sensors, light grids, safety barriers, distance measurement, triangulation, smoke detectors, mechanical engineering, robotics, gas analysis (CO2, oxygen)
  • Medical: Dental, Lighting, Endoscopy, Microscopy

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

B.J: We have a strong portfolio in:

  • IR LED Chips from 680 nm – 1000 nm and > 1000nm
  • UV LED Chips, LED components and LED Modules from 260 – 425 nm
  • Laser diodes starting from 380 nm in UV up to 1000 nm in IR, VCSEL, TO housings, SMD devices

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

B.J:

  • Optoelectronic components: LED chips, detector chips, LEDs, laser diodes, customer-specific modules/LEDs
  • Services: sorting, measuring of LED chips and laser diodes, long-term storage in gel pack, waffle pack in dry storage cabinet
  • Customized LED chip qualification and certification; in-house development and naming
  • Prototype production with qualified consulting, PCB design, simulation (optical and thermal), manufacturing, quality assessment, functional tests
  • Standardized (small) series production

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

B.J: Customer often miss the right quantity in the right specification:

  • Sample quantities not available for them – we offer precise sorting for our customers
  • Desired specifications not available – Binning or characterization of LED chips and measurement of laser diodes
  • Recognize technological advantage – we are already looking for a suitable product on the market the moment we experience the need

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

B.J: We still see a strong need for miniaturization of light sources in applications such as medical products and industry applications.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?
