INTERVIEW WITH CYPET TECHNOLOGIES

CYPET Technologies LTD is an international manufacturer of innovative single-stage Injection stretch blow-moulding systems for the production of PET bottles, jars, kegs and drums. CYPET is the market leader in machinery for the production of large PET containers (10Ltr or larger), its machines have so far molded PET containers ranging from 20ml to 120Ltr in size.

CYPET’s industry-changing innovations have been recognized internationally – CYPET won the Cyprus Innovation Award in 2017 and its 120Ltr PET Drum was a finalist in the global Sustainability Awards in 2019. Throughout its history, CYPET has been awarded both local and EU grants relating to business innovation, helping the company to accelerate the development of its technologies and products.

The company’s systems have been sold on all 5 continents via their global network of agents and delivered from CYPET’s manufacturing facilities in Cyprus and India.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

CYPET: The main areas of activity of the company are:

  • Manufacturing of molds and Injection Stretch Blow Molding Machines;
  • Design and development (including pilot molding) of new PET containers;
  • Technical support for customers.

E.E: What’s the news for 2021 about new products?

CYPET: In 2021 we are rolling out our Generation 2 machines, that offer greater speed, higher molding precision, higher consistency and better reliability than the Generation 1 machines.

Furthermore, we have completed development of a range of one-way water bottles for water dispensers (from 10Ltr to 5 gallons), achieving very high bottle quality at the lowest weight – giving our customers the chance to dominate their respective water bottle markets.

Finally, CYPET has developed new types of PET bottles that are stackable and have an integrated handle, that are starting to enter the market in 2021, to replace HDPE jerrycans. They are lighter weight than the equivalent HDPE jerrycans and can also be made from 100% recycled PET.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

CYPET: We have 2 series of machines, toggle based and long stroke. Each machine series has 4 machine sizes, to cater for different bottle size and output required by customers.

They can make a huge range of PET containers for many industries like water, edible oil, pharmaceuticals, miniature, beer and industrial packaging.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

CYPET: We are operating mostly in the large container market, which is a new market that has been made accessible by our technology. This market is growing (different segments at difference pace) and it’s exciting to see how the different bottle producers are subtilizing the CYPET technology to open up new opportunities for them with minimal competition.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

CYPET: The market has been showing steady growth in the last few years. Of course, the Covid pandemic has shaken up the market, with some segments declining significantly but others growing. We are seeing more and more customers requiring the capability to mold the bottles in recycled PET, especially in the EU.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

CYPET: There are a lot of them! In general, these have been large containers with handles or other features incorporated on their neck. Some highlights are shown below, produced exclusively by CYPET machines.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2021?

CYPET: We expect that as global COVID vaccinations progress, the economies globally will improve enough to allow recovery and growth in the plastics packaging market. Furthermore, with the increasing use of recycled PET in the production process, the plastics economy will transition to a more sustainable, circular economy with many benefits and further market growth.
