INTERVIEW WITH D2D WATER SOLUTIONS

D2D Water Solutions is a Dutch based company with over 25 years of experience in water management. The company develops, produces and supplies smart purification systems for (rain)water treatment. D2D Water Solutions aims to provide solutions to the rising global water stress and focus on SDG6 (clean water and sanitation). Step by step, they move closer to creating the water neutral home and, in the future, the water positive home.

Interview with Jeroen Renders, International Sales Manager at D2D Water Solutions.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Jeroen Renders: We are active on both commercial and domestic water markets, mainly the rainwater harvesting and legionella prevention markets. Our core product is the Drop2Drink unit, a decentral water filtration system which filters rainwater to drinking water. This water purification system can be used in many appliances such as homes, offices, breweries, hospitals, schools and other buildings. Furthermore, we have a history in legionella prevention and sell legionella rapid test kits and ultrafilters.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

J.R: The Drop2Drink unit has seen many developments in the past years vastly improving its filtration techniques, core control system and reducing the cost. The Drop2Drink Unit is being tested by several water supply companies for long periods of time in order to guarantee its performance.

Furthermore, we are developing a new module for the Drop2Drink unit which will make it possible to filter all types of water (Grey and/or Black) to drinking water quality. We then use rainwater to top up the water supply. By creating this module, we will provide the unique opportunity to create a fully circular local water supply so the user is completely independent of mains water and there is no need to construct the piping.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

J.R: Water Safety:

  • Drop2Drink Unit
  • Ultrafiltration Kits (self-cleaning)
  • Legionella prevention:
  • Legionella Rapid test kits
  • Ultrafiltration build-in Kits

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

J.R: The market of decentralized water supply is an emerging market, something most people are unaware of. Just as most people are unaware of the globally rising water stress levels. However, the rainwater harvesting market is a market which has been around for a long time and this market is now growing.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

J.R: The main development, which is shared across a number of countries, is that we cannot take sufficient and safe water for granted anymore. Climate change, soil salinization, urbanization and water wastage form the core of this problem. Vitens, the largest drinking water company in the Netherlands, is warning that adequate drinking water supply is not a certainty.

Water stress is increasing close to home and extreme weather such as drought and storms are becoming more common. One of our main talents as humans is our adaptability, which will be put to the test during the coming years. The use of rainwater can solve water scarcity, but the infrastructure and law are hardly developing at the necessary rate. Yes, even the law is lacking. Rainwater has been forgotten to be counted among sources of potable water. Luckily many auditors are tolerating rainwater use to some degree and see its merits, helping to change it for the better.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

J.R: Our Drop2Drink Unit is one of the most innovative products in its field, never before was water quality guaranteed from a decentralized filtration system which does not add chemicals. The system is plug & play, compact and modular.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2022?

J.R: 2022 will bring the new version of the Drop2Drink Unit, making the unit more compact, sustainable and cheaper. We are very happy to receive a lot of positive feedback and interest for our Drop2Drink unit. Many people who take sustainability to heart are interested to follow our progress. We are excited to have connected with many rainwater harvesting and installation companies who are willing to become our distributors. We want to give back to the world, as do many of the companies we work with. In order to grow the market, we hope to find even more international distributors.
