INTERVIEW WITH ERVIN. HOW PRODUCTS INCREASE PROFITABILITY FOR USERS?

Ervin offers a range of steel and stainless steel shot and grit abrasives supported by local technical support working with customers to optimize their whole blasting process. In 2022, Ervin launched a new product, Amapure which is a mineral additive designed to remove oil and grease from the blasting process.  You can see the full range of products at https://www.ervin.eu/products/ .

Interview with Paul Abram, Head of Technical Services, Europe at Ervin.

Easy Engineering: Which are the most innovative products / services and what special features do they have?

Paul Abram: In tests carried out under laboratory conditions at Ervin – and repeated in our customers’ process – our abrasive consistently outperforms equivalent competitors for durability and transmitted energy. We rigorously pursue optimum levels of hardness, grading, metallurgical microstructure, chemistry and physical form to ensure that our customers can trust our product to consistently perform at the highest levels.

E.E: How important are these features for the users in their work?

P.A: Good durability means our product lasts longer, and a high transmitted energy allows cleaning to be quicker.  Choosing Ervin steel & stainless steel shot and grit provides an opportunity for users to increase productivity and reduce cost.

E.E: How important is innovation in your field?

P.A: Our customers are always developing their products.  From more complex geometry or lightweight alloys in casting, to the most advanced polymers for coating after surface preparation. Ervin’s own solutions must always be flexible enough to meet these innovations.

E.E: How do your products / solutions impact cost effectiveness for the users?

P.A: Ervin products have been proven in field testing at customers, as well as our own laboratories and tests centers, to last longer and clean better. This means lower consumption of abrasive and energy, as well as reduced waste and environmental impact.

Careful abrasive selection is also a key factor in optimizing the efficiency of the shot blasting process.  Choosing the best type of abrasive, it’s size, shape and hardness can unlock significant opportunities for users to clean faster and/or produce better quality results, reducing costs, increasing throughput and customer satisfaction.

Our technical experts also work with customers to ensure their blasting process is optimized.  The Ervin Solutions Finder can help users explore the products we recommend for their particular situation. https://www.ervin.eu/

E.E: What kind of work do users who use these products / services do?

P.A: Ervin customers use our steel and stainless steel abrasives to clean, prepare surfaces for coatings, peen materials to increase the strength and life of components and to cut granite and marble. Our customers operate in a wide variety of industries including automotive, aerospace, transport, foundry & forge, transportation, agriculture, energy and construction.

E.E: How do your products increase profitability for users?

P.A: Ervin steel and stainless steel abrasives together with our technical support help customers reduce costs, improve productivity and increase quality of their finished products which translates directly into greater profitability and competitiveness.

E.E: How do your products / services differ from other types on the market?

P.A: The Ervin technology for high carbon steel abrasives and stainless steel abrasives is the most advanced in the world. Our German production facilities in Glaubitz and Sprockhövel together with the knowledge of our technology center in Tecumseh, USA utilize continuous quality control and cutting-edge production processes to guarantee consistently high performance for our customers.

E.E: How do your products help solve users’ problems?

P.A: We welcome the opportunity to work with our customers to understand their challenges and help them achieve the best possible steel blasting efficiency in their business. Our dedicated test center performs regular trials to find the optimum, often innovative, solution for their problems. Our website features case studies from different industries showing how we have helped customers overcome their blasting problems.

E.E: What products / solutions are you going to launch in the future?

P.A: In 2022 we have introduced Amapure, a mineral blasting additive to remove oil and grease from the blasting process as this can cause significant problems for some of our customers.  Close working with our customers and industry associations helps us identify opportunities for future innovation and development of new products and solutions.  In particular, Additive Manufacturing is an innovative field we are currently supporting.
