INTERVIEW WITH EST-FLOATTECH

EST-Floattech (2009) is a Dutch energy technology company that develops and supplies energy storage solutions for maritime applications. Before EST-Floattech started supplying batteries, the company was a system integrator. With a track record of 200+ projects, EST-Floattech is a reliable partner for safe battery systems in the maritime branch.

From the Headquarter and Production Centre in Badhoevedorp (the Netherlands) and the Sales Office in Hamburg (Germany), EST-Floattech serves clients worldwide.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

EST-FLOATTECH: Our Energy Storage Systems are implemented in fully electric ships, in powerful hybrid applications combined with diesel engines or hydrogen technologies. We provide batteries for different types of marine vessels, such as: Ferries, River Cruisers, Fishery vessels, Inland shipping, offshore vessels, Tugs and Workboats and superyachts

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

EST-FLOATTECH: The company’s strong application and integration knowledge, the experience with the Green Orca battery and challenges that clients face, paved the way for the creation of our new Energy Storage Solution: The Octopus-Series. With it we continue our mission to offer the maritime world a safe and modular battery system plus, among others a very simple integration and remote monitoring for our clients. The new Octopus-series batteries is available in High Energy and High Power, with which we address the demand of clients. The module and string controller are currently undergoing DNV-type approval.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

EST-FLOATTECH: Our product scope includes the NMC battery modules with a redundant safety system. While the module controller checks multiple data of each cell within the module, the string controller connects all data to monitor and control the whole battery application to provide our clients a reliable system for their maritime use. Our modules will be delivered together with a customized racking and exhaust system to assure safe operations.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

EST-FLOATTECH: More and more people are investing in zero-emission shipping, on the one hand on their own initiative and on the other hand we see governments investing in making the shipping industry more durable.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

EST-FLOATTECH: We see the market is looking into different fuels, often in combination with battery systems to safe energy consumption. Possible applications are plug-in-hybrid, hybrid and fully electric propulsion concepts. Battery capacities increase and will become a bigger role the coming years for inland and seagoing vessels.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

EST-FLOATTECH: Last ten years our most innovative, safe and proven product was Green Orca 1050 and will be replaced by Octopus High Energy and High Power in 2023.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?

EST-FLOATTECH: We assume a smooth product launch for our Octopus Series next year while building up new business relations with new and present customers worldwide. New projects will be initiated and the industry will keep on innovating and working towards more sustainable shipping as much and as fast as possible to reach the emission goals of 2050.
