INTERVIEW WITH EUCLID LABS

Euclid Labs was founded in 2005 by Roberto Polesel and Matteo Peluso with the purpose of developing custom CAD/CAM and software for OEM, in Mareno di Piave (TV, Italy). Nowadays it works to provide industrial manufacturing companies with flexible and effective software tools to face difficulties related to small batch production, high quality requirements and complex task automation. Since 2016, it is actively present in the Chinese Market, thanks to the creation of a joint venture with Estun Automation, called Euclid Labs Nanjing Co., Ltd. In 2020, Euclid Labs successfully opened a new branch in Hungary (Euclid Labs Dunube kft) that is rapidly expanding.

Euclid Labs defines its activity as transforming 3d data (from cad, vision or even gestures) in machine trajectories and programs.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

EUCLID LABS: Euclid Labs delivers complete 3Dvision-based software solutions (robot random bin picking) and CAD/CAM offline programming software (e.g. robotized bending, palletizing), collaborating with robot manufacturers, system integrators and also directly with end-customers.

Moonflower is Euclid Labs’ leading product, a high-end software solution for robot random bin picking. (A pinpricking process can be explained as follows: a robot (composed by six or more axis) has to pick from a box an object in a stable way to place it properly.) Moonflower supports full randomness of the bin, uses different sensor depending on the particular challenge and comes with robot subprograms to handle the process. Each production has different needs, Euclid Labs has developed several versions of its 3D application to meet with the best results various trade-offs between time cycle, accuracy, volume, costs and flexibility. Moonflower is focused on the performances and predictability of its solutions, as opposite to the common claim of „easy to use”.

E.E: What’s the news for 2021 about new products?

EUCLID LABS: 2020 already brought a big novelty in Euclid Labs range of products: in October Euclid Labs launched Nak3D, its first industrial scanner, ideal for shiny objects and with the best accuracy among the industrial scanners. Nak3D is the perfect scanner for the companies that are looking for a cost effective 3D vision solution, when high accuracy is needed and if spending 8 seconds for scanning would not be a problem. In 2021, Nak3D scanner will undergo a ground-breaking upgrade.

Euclid Labs will also be committed to the release of a community online for robotics experts and enthusiastic: Industrial Robotics Group by Euclid Labs (industrialrobotics.org). This brand new community will have the goal of gathering industrial robotics programmers, users or even just fans, in a virtual place where they can share their experiences, find tips and tricks, ask for community support, having in this way the chance of improving their skills and empowering their applications. This is an ambitious project that Euclid hopes will become the go to place for many engineers when having trouble with industrial robots.

„We think that robot programmers are a community working for a better new world where each job is becoming more and more meaningful. If each of us can share a little of his knowledge we will be all incredibly empowered. Join us to help us achieve our goal on growing a strong Industrial Robotics community.”

E.E: What are the ranges of traded products?

EUCLID LABS: Main product range spread from 3d cameras and software to full bin picking work cell solution for machine tending.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

EUCLID LABS: At present, Euclid Labs is approaching the growth market stage, expanding through the selling of products to the early adopters with an eye always toward the early majority of automotive subcontractors. In fact, 3 out of 10 major automotive subcontractors already adopted Euclid Labs software solutions in many of their plants worldwide.

Even if sometimes 3D vision and automatic programming are considered still in some part experimental, Euclid Labs machines have loaded at today more than one hundred million of parts.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

EUCLID LABS: A larger role of automation in manufacturing and of software in particular is an easy prediction.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

EUCLID LABS: The most innovative product is always the next one. During the first half of next year, Euclid Labs will release a new product for robot programming that will reap the benefits from both Euclid’s long-lasting experience in 3D vision and the innovation of the techniques developed for virtual reality.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2021?

EUCLID LABS: Euclid Labs is targeting an yearly growth of 30% for 2021.
