INTERVIEW WITH EVOMISURE

Evomisure Srl is the Italian subsidiary of Evolution Measurement Group, a UK-based company that is a manufacturer, service company, system integrator and distributor, but most of all a solution provider. The company works with a number of world-class instrumentation and measurement solutions from around the globe and provide applications advice into a wide range of applications. The team has a large and varied experience of instrumentation and its effective use, so are ready to assist with some of the most challenging measurement applications.

Interview with Giuseppe Ronciglia, Managing Director at Evomisure Srl.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Giuseppe Ronciglia: Many of our products are used in aerodynamic measurements, mostly around Pressure and Temperature, which takes us into areas of much passion for us, where our customers are developing Automotive solutions; race cars, trucks, motorcycles, cycles and trains, as well as Aircraft, Wind turbines, Gas turbines and structures. In fact, anywhere where optimizing aerodynamic performance and efficiency is important – from a fan to an F1 car!

We also have a number of high precision laboratory measurement solutions for Temperature, Resistance and Capacitance, that are used by the National Measurement Institutes around the world. These are used to validate some of the highest accuracy measurements around.

Aircraft Maintenance is a further market sector for us. We supply instruments that are used to validate the Aircraft instrument and communication systems that help keep aircraft fleets in-service, but also safe and efficient.

In addition to the Italian subsidiary Evomisure Srl, and the head office Evolution Measurement Ltd in the UK, we also have subsidiaries in USA (Evolution Inc), Germany (EvoMestec) and France (EvoMesure), to help us better serve our customers locally. These have proven very successful in the past few years.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

G.R: We have developed, with our partners and our customer’s feedback, a strong range of products for these focused applications. Many years of experience come together to create the optimal solutions for measurement in a wide range of applications. New products trend towards being lighter, smaller, more rugged, more accurate and repeatable and, for the user, much easier and more intuitive to use.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

G.R: We manufacture our own EvoScann products which are very small and light pressure scanners that are used in applications where measurement may have been impossible or difficult before. Many of these are used in Formula One to help the teams optimize car performance, or in Electric Vehicles where range and longevity is also directly linked to Aerodynamic or Aerothermal performance.

Vectoflow multi-hole probes measure surface pressures. These are 3D Additive manufactured to allow customization of the probes to meet the customers exact requirements, whether that be for supersonic flight or the lowest of flows across an object.

CCX instruments are validating the comprehensive measurement systems on an aircraft whether it be commercial or military. These are used to check the flight deck instrumentation and the communication systems ensuring all avionics systems remain reliable and trustworthy.

Guildline measurements are used in the laboratory to measure physical properties with the highest possible accuracy, ensuring adherence to national standards and the most precise measurements around.

Streamwise flow visualization system allows the user to “paint a picture” of the entire pressure and temperature map of a test object. Pressure data can be visualized in a 3D image enabling the aerodynamicist to physically see the air flow, analyze the data in real time and make modifications to enhance the pressure map profile. This reduces development cycles by identifying development-focus/problem areas very quickly.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

G.R: In most of these markets, our products are used in Research and Development phase. These are essential throughout every stage of developing a new car or an aircraft, for example, and this can be a very long development cycle requiring lots of data at every step. Conversely, in a racing car, development is very quick and continuous, often with cars changing significantly from weekend to weekend. Gathering data on the car is essential in feeding the development process, solving complex problems and, ultimately, enhancing competitiveness.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

G.R: For sure, more measurement is required in every process. A trend towards gathering data to improve that process is key. In order to optimize any product or process, first you need to gather accurate, reliable data and then analyze it. Accurate data is essential to reduce the length of the development cycle and allow faster more accurate decisions to be made. Fuel economy, emissions control and range performance is a major focus on most transportation solutions, and measurement technology is critical to these enhancements. Measurements remove the guesswork from the development process and as instruments develop their own performance, they can be used in every more challenging environments. We are often making measurements that weren’t possible ever before, which increased the scope for customers to better understand and enhance their own products’ performance.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

G.R: EvoScann and Streamwise are unique solutions. Scanivalve have extended the ranges of many of their products to enhance their application breadth, building on their experience of aerodynamic measurements stretching back to 1955. This means that many of the technologies that we can offer are game changing in the market and enabling customers to enhance their own capabilities.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2022?

G.R: 2022 is proving to be a year of recovery, growth and investment. Many organizations that had to cancel or delay testing during the pandemic are now in “catch-up” mode working to bring delayed customer projects back on-track. Changing landscapes around environmental protection enhance the need for ever-more fuel-efficient transportation systems. These trends all mean investment, testing, research, product development….and fundamentally more measurement and analysis!
