INTERVIEW WITH GLOBAL GAUGE CORPORATION

Global Gauge Corporation (GGC) builds x-ray thickness gauges and dimensional measurement systems to materials producers/processors throughout the world.  Now in their 23rd year, GGC serves customers with crop optimization, slab measurement, centerline and cross-width strip thickness measurement, coating measurement, bar imaging/thermal profile, width measurement, and crop shear control solutions. The company also produces lab-based gauges for confirming thickness, profile, density, and coating weight values.

Global Gauge Corporation has successful installations from hot/thick to cold/thin, and everything in between. Their systems can be provided on a PC or PLC platform at the request of the customer.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

GGC: GGC is a full-service systems provider. We build the systems, write the software, manufacture the critical sensors, and commission/service the gauges beyond the point of installation.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

GGC: We continue to embrace exciting new technologies. Most recently, we’ve begun implementing IOT monitoring sensors on our gauges to detect for abnormalities and anomalies in temperature and mechanical parameters – such as vibration. This is helping us to get ahead of issues and perform preventative maintenance on our gauges whenever possible.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

GGC: Our gauges can be installed from thick plate mills all the way down to thin foil mills. This large range allows us to be the sole gauge provider for customers who have fully integrated hot and cold rolling mills in the steel and aluminum industries.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

GGC: Having been active in the market for 23 years, GGC is a well-established brand in the gauging industry. We continue to grow within our existing customer base and are continuing to expand into new markets as the global steel industry changes.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

GGC: We see the steel industry continuing to be strong through 2023. All indications are that while commodity prices have cooled off a bit since their 2021 highs, the market and demand will continue to be very strong.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

GGC: Our PLC-based thickness gauges are state-of-the-art gauging systems that allow customers to run their gauge on a PLC, independent from any PC or proprietary gauging software. This allows our customers to have an extremely robust and reliable solution without ceding control of their critical parts.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2022?

GGC: 2022 will be a very strong year for GGC in line with the overall strength of the global steel industry. We will continue to invest in our new product development and embrace emerging technologies to create better solutions for our customers that will last for years to come!
