INTERVIEW WITH GRAPHENE LAYERS

Graphene Layers, the leading graphene producer, produces both cost-efficient and high-purity graphene with highly innovative graphene composite products. Their growth is accelerated through the development of new graphene-based applications. Graphene can open a spectrum of possibilities, unlike any other material. Further, they have a strong focus on sustainability, and their products can be used in a variety of applications

Interview with Carly Heissenbuttel, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer & Alhaz Shiliwala, Founder, President & Chief Executive Officer at Graphene Layers.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Carly Heissenbuttel & Alhaz Shiliwala: Currently, we are focused on growing our production capacity in North America and Europe as well as expanding our Research and Development activities into various industries in an applied materials basis for the usage of innovative Graphene products.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

C.H & A.S: We are launching our Graphene Additive products that are developed and ready to be deployed in multiple coating-based applications.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

C.H & A.S: Right now, we offer our GOxide™ and rGOxide™ as well as our additives for coatings and polymers.

The range of GOxide™ and rGOxide™ products include, but is not limited to:

Powder, Flakes, or Solution, which can be used as a based material for the production of other graphene-based materials.

Suspensions can be used as a dispersant for other materials, such as pigments or catalysts, or as a coating material.

Composites can be used in various applications such as energy storage, water treatment, catalysis, and sensing.

Inks or pastes can be used in printed electronics, such as sensors and solar cells.

Coatings can be used for anti-corrosion and anti-fouling applications.

This is not an exhaustive list and new products are constantly being developed as the research in this field is ongoing.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

C.H & A.S: We are active in multiple markets such as carbon capture, energy, and defence. What we are seeing is that the Industry and Governments are very eager to advance through research and pilot testing of products at an unprecedented rate, we anticipate our R&D activities in the private and public sectors to grow in the next two years at an exponential rate.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

C.H & A.S: Because of the heavy focus on ESG reporting and compliance and its impact on global supply chains, we feel that our solution offers a close regional manufacturing capacity and has implications for supply chain mitigation. We also see the advantage of our product in the energy industry for its capacity to serve as a carbon reducer in multiple use cases, such as concrete and steel production. Lastly, because of Graphene’s strength composition, its usages as an applied material in defence and aerospace are endless.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

C.H & A.S: Right now, Graphene is being utilized in multiple innovations in the battery energy storage industry which is very promising given the investments made into EVs.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?

C.H & A.S: 2023 will be a fantastic year for Graphene and Graphene Layers, we are projecting to have our first domestic USA production facility installed as well as increasing our R&D Portfolio to over 20 projects. We see the Global Graphene market improving as the increasing demand for raw materials rises, Graphene will show promise in its natural availability and tremendous technical advances, which we are only just beginning to scratch the surface of!
