Interview with Marcel Wieland, Product Manager at Innovative Umwelttechnik GmbH.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Marcel Wieland: We are manufacturer of special components in the market of environmental technology and sewer management. But we are also a solution provider for individual application fields. Our strength is our flexibility that allows us to respond specifically to the wishes and requirements of our customers.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

M.W: Last year we launched our compact control unit KS-SSR 600 to complete our Jet Cleaner Family. With this unit, our clients can put in all the basin specific data and control the complete procedures and all the movements from the cleaners to ensure highly efficient cleaning processes. In simple words – it is the brain which translates the commands from the customer to the machine. We also integrated a plug and play interface to connect the cleaner with the control unit in a very easy way to avoid any kind of electrical faults from operator side.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

M.W: We can offer our customers a wide range of special products for the most diverse applications in the field of environmental technology. Our main products are the components from our Jet Cleaner Family – especially the Swivel jet Cleaner SSR-A2-150.

They work on the principle of the water jet pump. A pump delivers a volume flow into the jet pipe. The air is added to the water in the area of the air intake pipe and is emitted horizontally from the jet pipe at high speed. This creates a flow which keeps the particles contained in the medium and prevents them from settling on the bottom. The suspended solids are reliably flushed out of the basin during the emptying phase. Due to the supplied air, the swivel jet cleaners also have an aeration function. This prevents unpleasant odors and the formation of rot.

They are designed for the use in rainwater basins. These basins are used as balancing basins to intercept heavy rainfall events and to protect the following infrastructure up to the sewage treatment plant from collapsing. The cleaners are responsible to clean the basin and to guarantee the long-term operation of the plants.

Furthermore, our portfolio includes easy weight aluminium manhole covers for operationally and traffic-safe covering of manholes in public, industrial and private areas.

Our special building accesses like our Swimming Stairs and our Folding Lid Stairs guarantee safe and hygienic entry into watered special buildings. They are suitable for installation in stormwater retention basins and pumping stations of explosion class I and II.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

M.W: The market we are active in is surely a growing market with great potential.

Due to climate change and the resulting increase in the frequency of environmental disasters such as heavy rainfall events, the demand for products and infrastructures that reduce these influences is rising sharply worldwide. This development will even intensify in the coming years. More and more countries and states are promoting the development of wastewater infrastructures to counteract the consequences of these natural events.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

M.W: The increasing proportion of microplastics in our wastewater and the resulting solutions to handle them will take on an even larger share of the total market in the future. Also, many of the trends in our industry are based on general trends such as the increasing demand for energy-efficient products to ensure economic and ecological processes. The ever-increasing environmental awareness is also a huge potential for our industry We will set our focus specially to meet these trends in the future.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

M.W: Our Jet Cleaner Family with all the components is surely a highlight in our portfolio. Due to their efficiency in the cleaning process, manually unpopular hand-cleaning by the operating staff is not necessary. Our customers appreciate this added value very much. In the future, we will continue to develop our products in line with the increasing requirements of our customers and continue to act as a special problem solver – this path has proven to be the right one for us.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?

M.W: We will participate in several trade fairs and exhibitions to show our products a wider range of possible customers. The next one is the fair “Tausendwasser” in Berlin. We are very much looking forward and are currently in the preparations for it. Also, some optimizations and the developing of innovative new products are on our to-do list for 2023/24. At the end, we think that we can increase our sales of products also in 2023.
