INTERVIEW WITH JANUS ENGINEERING

JANUS Engineering is an international company with six sites. As partner we support manufacturing companies in the integration, optimization, individualization and training for Siemens NX PLM solutions. For more details, we talked with Werner Karp/CEO and Patrick Miekautsch/SalesManager of JANUS Engineering AG Germany.

Easy Engineering: A brief description of the company and its activities.

JANUS: We realize intelligent digitization in manufacturing of parts.

JANUS realizes digitization, i.e. we help customers to digitize their manufacturing environment for the optimized and automated realization of the real products. We secure the future in partnership with industry, research, and University. Together with our customers, we make processes smarter. With our Academy program, we train customers and partners worldwide. As an international market leader, we offer innovative and individual product solutions based on leading technology. Together with our international partners, we offer local support all over the world. Many years of practical experience and extensive know-how drives us as the JANUS Engineering Group to achieve the future challenges of our customers.

E.E: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

JANUS: Digital Manufacturing – Let’s make it real!

Our portfolio offers a comprehensive and integrated manufacturing solution. From design through manufacturing to the shopfloor, we are offering the Siemens product portfolio together with addon solutions for most efficient and individual process optimisation and automation. This includes specialized automation tools and postprocessing as essential part of product realisation, shop documentation for the syncronized information flow, adaptive measurement for on-machine probing on the NC machine as base for highly automation and integrated tool and technology management for a complete review of the manufacturing process.

E.E: What’s the news for 2020 about new products?

JANUS: In 2020 we have launched a major new version of our Technology Manager. The Technology Manager (TMGR) is a proven tool management module highly integrated in the NX CAM system. It has a new architecture for a very smart User Experience and functionality. It also contains the integration of other databases like Zoller or Coscom. The TMGR/TMDS interface represents a general platform for technology exchange of the CAM system with external systems to achieve a high potential productivity gain

Further we extended our representation in the US market through founding of JANUS Engineering Inc. In Morhan Hill, CA & the AMS Collective Inc. In Denver, Co. JANUS Engineering Inc. Is focussing on the CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine programming) Business, so we complete the process chain for quality management.

With AMS Collective Inc., we expand our „classic” Janus Business to the US Market for better local support.

E.E: What are the ranges of traded products?

JANUS: Our product portfolio, consisting of the Siemens portfolio for Industry 4.0 applications in manufacturing, addon products for best in case customer solutions and according services as consulting and training is targeting to achieve best possible process automation of an integrated manufacturing process.
The Addon products cover special applications for technology management, including tool management, Automation tools SpeedMill and SpeedWire, extensions for on-machine-probing with integrated external products from Renishaw and some more.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

JANUS: Manufacturing companies currently compete on a global basis for providing fast products which need to be very much adopted to special customer requirements.

This forces the manufacturing processes to become very flexible and highly automated for a smaller number of serial parts.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

JANUS: For being competitive in a global market, customers need to automate their processes. This requires 3 major tasks to achieve an automation of the individual customer process.

Analyse the process and standardize, utilize best possible technology and empower the staff to make the process as automate as possible and maintain it in the future.

Currently there is a high demand for this kind of automation as the available technology enables

We are helping the customer to achieve this by consult for the process analysis, deliver best in class technology and provide service for implementation, adaptation and training of the staff.

Together with our Customers and Partners, we can see a Market trend into automation. With this automation, we can save the Business in the Local Area. From our perspective, this trend into automated processes is the key for the future for European manufacturing companies.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

JANUS: Our SpeedMill and SpeedWire modules cover a deep learning approach for individual manufacturing steps of the customer process for later automated application.

The user is able to teach the system in his most experienced way to cut a part and then apply it in further parts. The more work he applies the more the system will learn. Depending on the product portfolio a high productivity rate can be achieved.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2020?

JANUS: The requirement for highly automated manufacturing processes is still increasing. We expect that more and more manufacturing companies will go for digitization and automation of their processes and therefor are seeking for according solutions. We are well prepared to help implementing this portion of Industry 4.0 in all areas where parts need to become real.
