INTERVIEW WITH KUBIKLE

Kubikle is a leading manufacturer of sleep pods and modular hotel rooms designed for the budget hospitality industry. Their innovative sleep capsules are perfect for hostels, airports, and temporary or short-lease accommodations, thanks to their modular and easily relocatable design. In addition, Kubikle offers office meeting pods that cater to various needs, from single-person privacy booths to 20-seater boardrooms, making them ideal for open-plan offices.

The company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is located just outside Hanoi, Vietnam, and utilises advanced CNC equipment for precise and efficient production.

Interview with Knud Clausen, Managing Director at Kubikle.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Knud Clausen: Kubikle is a manufacturer of modular pods crafted with a one-of-a-kind aluminium structure featuring tension locks. Our fully insulated pods come prewired with power points, USB chargers, ventilation systems, and other amenities, ensuring immediate usability upon assembly without the need for additional trades.

In addition to manufacturing, we boast an in-house team specialising in marketing, shipping, and product development.

Our talented group of architects and draftsmen enable us to design and develop floor plans, visuals, and renderings tailored to our customers’ projects, providing a comprehensive and seamless experience.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

K.C: Recently, Kubikle expanded its product line to include modular housing, inspired by the opportunity to provide accommodations for refugees.

Our innovative capsules (Kubikle Kapsule) and modular room solutions (Kubikle Kabin) were recognised for their potential in temporary refugee housing. Building on this success, we developed a more permanent housing solution for our customers – Kubikle Konstrukt. These container homes come fully equipped with bathrooms, kitchens, and living spaces, offering a comfortable and sustainable living environment.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

K.C: Our product line-up spans two primary categories: Workspace and Accommodation pods.

Within the Workspace category, we offer various meeting and privacy pod sizes, beginning with a single-person privacy booth and extending to two-person, four-person, and even full boardrooms for 20 or more participants. These meeting pods are equipped with built-in magnetic light tracks, full ventilation, soundproof insulation in the wall panels, and double-glazed windows and doors for complete privacy. workspace pods | kubikle

The Accommodation range starts with Kubikle Kapsule, a capsule-style pod designed for one or two people, stacked two high and outfitted with power outlets, chargers, built-in lighting, and ventilation. This fully self-contained sleep pod caters to budget-conscious travellers.

Kubikle Kabin, our modular room concept, allows for creating budget hotel rooms up to 4 x 7 meters in size. These rooms are easily assembled and ready for use upon completion.

A significant advantage of Kubikle pods is their demountability, allowing relocation without losing the capital invested in the infrastructure. This feature enables budget hotels to proceed without fear of losing construction costs in short-term lease situations. accommodation pods | kubikle

Lastly, we offer Kubikle Konstrukt, a modular prefab container housing concept that assembles much faster than a conventional build. prefab pods | kubikle

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

K.C: Kubikle, a newcomer to the capsule pod industry, was established in 2022 following a year of development. Production commenced in mid-2022, and the company has since completed numerous Workspace projects in Vietnam. Kubikle Kapsule pods are now being exported to the United States, Australia, and several Southeast Asian countries. The company plans to expand into the Middle East and Europe, primarily focusing on Accommodation solutions, as this niche offers greater uniqueness and larger-scale projects compared to the saturated Workplace market with numerous competitors.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

K.C: The global commercial real estate market has experienced a decline in office space demand due to the aftermath of Covid. Landlords are exploring innovative ways to repurpose their properties. The rise of digital nomads seeking budget-friendly accommodations with social networking opportunities has prompted many customers to create co-working spaces that include lodging facilities. Kubikle’s product offerings are well-suited for this trend, as our fully modular system enables us to design flexible solutions tailored to our customer’s needs.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

K.C: Kubikle’s innovation stems from the modular nature of our system, which offers advantages in freight and on-site transportation, as each component can easily fit into an elevator. The primary benefit, however, is the swift installation process. A double-level Kubikle Kapsule can be assembled in under 30 minutes and easily disassembled. This efficiency starkly contrasts traditional construction, which requires various trades to complete a project.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?

K.C: Kubikle anticipates 2023 as a pivotal year, as numerous substantial projects are already in progress. The visibility gained from these endeavours is expected to propel our expansion into several new markets during 2023 and 2024.
