INTERVIEW WITH KWIK LOK

Kwik Lok is the global leader in bag closures and bag closing equipment. They are a global company with headquarters in Washington State, USA. 

Interview with Karen Reed, Director of Global Communications and Marketing at Kwik Lok.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Karen Reed: Kwik Lok makes bag closures that work on a variety of bag types and are used in the food industry.  Our products are often seen on produce and bakery items but we also close items outside of the food industry.  In addition to creating closures, Kwik Lok also develops the automated and semi-automated machines that put the closures on the bags. We sell billions of Kwik Lok’s every year. 

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

K.R: Kwik Lok has been working to develop sustainable solutions in packaging closures.  We currently have two products, the Fibre-Lok and the Eco-Lok in our portfolio. The Fibre-Lok is plastic-free and is made from sustainably sourced cellulose fiber. This product is good for bakery products.

The Eco-Lok is made using starch from renewably sources corn and potato starch.  This product is good for produce and products that will be in a wet or frozen environment.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

K.R: Kwik Lok has closures for almost any type of bag whether it be plastic or paper.  Our closing machines are durable and reliable and are made to close a wide variety of products and bags. 

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

K.R: Consumers are looking for sustainable solutions that will help them meet their sustainability goals.  Less waste in general, plastic replacements and products that are either recyclable or compostable. 

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

K.R: Fiber-Lok and Eco-Lok.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?

K.R: We believe consumers will continue to want products that are sustainable and are able to share scientific information about the materials products are made from.
