INTERVIEW WITH LITHIUM POWER

Lithium Power, based in San Jose, California, is specialized in custom designing and manufacturing smart lithium batteries using their proprietary BMS solution.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Lithium Power: The lithium batteries can be used in various applications such as light electric vehicles and energy storage.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

Lithium Power: Lithium Power, Inc. recently released a 12V GC2 sized LFP battery to directly drop-in replace lead acid batteries. Lithium Power’s GC2 drop-in replacement batteries now come in 12V, 24V, and 48V.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

Lithium Power: Lithium Power can support all applications utilizing 60VDC and below batteries.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

Lithium Power: Our lithium drop-in replacement batteries retrofit lead acid applications. Lead acid batteries have been around for 100 years.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

Lithium Power: There is a shift from lead acid batteries to lithium.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

Lithium Power: Our BMS takes care of cell balancing within the pack, and when multiple packs are connected together, it balances between packs.

Our battery packs offer multiple levels of protection parameters which are adjustable. For example, 100A continuous discharge, 250A for 30 seconds, 400A for 10 seconds. There is current, voltage, temperature, and short circuit protection.

Our BMS communicates around 60 parameters of battery information using various communication protocols like CANBus, SMBus, bluetooth. Information includes SOC, SOH, number of charge cycles, depth of discharge, operating temperatures, cell and BMS board temperatures, cell voltages, discharge currents, peak discharge current and duration, and more. Information can be delivered live to the application or saved in our history data log.

Our BMS provides accurate readings of capacity. Full charge capacity is self-learning meaning the battery knows its own state of health (capacity loss with use and age).

Our battery packs offer multiple modes such as active, sleep mode, standby, etc.

Our BMS can control heating elements built into the battery which preheats the battery before charging when temperatures are below freezing.

Our custom battery packs can achieve UL, IEC, ECE R100, UN 38.3, and other certifications.

E.E: What estimations do you have for the rest of 2022?

Lithium Power: Massive growth with lead acid replacement opportunities as well as with our OE accounts.
