INTERVIEW WITH MAKIN

Makin is a machine and project control company with strategic technology integration of hardware from the best-in-class suppliers. The solutions are developed in close dialog with the customers, and they strive to deliver 4-6 software updates a year.

The Makin’ solutions support the construction workflow in and around the excavator when accuracy and digital documentation are required. And Makin is more than machine control. With Makin’ Survey and Makin’ PerFormans, the company delivers workflow tools that help the construction industry manage projects digitally. All solutions are built on the same software platform and with Makin’ Cloud integration for a comprehensive site control solution.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

MAKIN: Makin is based on software with a solid IT architecture that is flexible and modularized with strategic hardware integration.

Makin’s focus is on routines, features and tools that help the customers’ daily work: Auto calibration, remote support and communication, online overview, and logging to ensure maximum uptime and productivity for the user.

E.E: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

MAKIN: Makin is a premium brand, and not necessarily the cheapest. We deliver quality, service and support in all aspects. Stability is of utmost importance for Makin.

Optimization of software and hardware ensures that the Makin’ solutions can handle very large models. This provides a great project overview, and you don’t need to split the files up. The system is very fast, responsive, and does not lack.

Product philosophy

All objects in the file (lines, points, surfaces) are visualized and can be quickly activated or deactivated in the model. You can select the references that you need directly in the run screen.

Warnings are easily activated for references when needed.

The user can hover over an object and see what the name is.

You can deactivate an entire layer, by selecting an object in the layer, and quickly be guided to the correct layer, which is very agile, because you don’t need to scroll around randomly in a large CAD file, trying to find the layer.

The user experience is of top priority for Makin with an intuitive and user-friendly interface and icons for all menus. The interface is customizable and can be scaled up and down in complexity according to the user’s needs.

The goal is to have system that is detailed enough for the advanced user yet simple enough for the beginner user. Most customers are able to get to learn the system themselves. The interface can be set up with more or less complexity.

What is new?

Makin’ Surfaces enhances operator overview and efficiency by automatic as-built surface documentation and graphical visualization of project progress and completion status.

The operator is continuously guided by a color-coded plot showing the bottom of the cut relative to the reference surface. The documented as-built surfaces are available on Makin’ Cloud for exporting and post processing.

Makin’ Surfaces increases project productivity and reduces the operator workload through effortless, continuous documentation of all excavation progress.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

MAKIN: Makin delivers 2D/3D machine control solutions for excavators, Makin’ Survey which is a rover solution for the surveyor working closely together with the excavator operator, and the new Makin’ PerFormans solution that is specifically designed for the foreman or the project manager.

The entire suite of solutions are built on the same software platform with Cloud integration and work as an app on the same tablets for different applications.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

MAKIN: The machine control market is projected to reach 6.5 billion USD by 2027, growing at a CAGR of 7.7 %.

The growth of the machine control market is mainly driven by the elimination of bulk earthworks set out and survey pegging and an anticipated demand for growing construction industry.
