INTERVIEW WITH MAR-KEY GROUP

Mar-Key Group specialises in the design and manufacture of temporary structures, supplying commercial and events sectors around the world. They produce everything in-house from floorboards to door frames. The company is formed of two divisions: Events and Structure Solutions. The Events division provides spectacular structures for the likes of Royal Ascot, Goodwood and high profile sporting events. The Structure Solutions division delivers buildings such as temporary warehouses, storage facilities and loading canopies for businesses who need more space.

Interview with Hannah Field, Brand Marketing Manager at Mar-Key Group.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Hannah Field: Our manufacturing department work hard all year round to supply both our Events and Structure Solutions divisions.

We are continually investing in the production of new kit and innovations in our design to meet the demands of our Event clients, and the same approach is applied to out Structure Solutions division where we design temporary buildings to support growing businesses. We also manufacture and sell temporary structures to fellow structure companies in the industry.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

H.F: For this year we have introduced a new product to the marketplace, The Horizon, which is our largest structure to date.

Our latest innovation is capable of rigging unusually high loads, previously unheard of within industry. In our tests in last year, we hung 8 tonnes from a 20m x 15m structure on an 8m leg, with results showing just 37mm deflection!

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

H.F: Our standard product range is 10m to 30m wide and we supply everything from basic PVC clad structure up to fully-clad buildings that can remain in situ for 30+ years and receive full structural sign off. We also deliver sound stages, warehouses, and aircraft hangars up to 60m wide and 14m high.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

H.F: There is a surge in demand for warehousing in Britain but also globally. With businesses needing additional space to support growth and operations, rising rents and low availability of warehouses has forced businesses to think more creatively. Our temporary buildings are an excellent investment for businesses who are looking to increase their capacity quickly and cost-effectively whilst also having flexibility.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

H.F: We have recently launched a new product called ‘The Horizon’, a large semi-permanent structure, which has a potential eaves height of 14m, and a maximum span of 60m.

The Horizon features a unique low pitched roof of three degrees, having exceptional environmental benefits, as well as demonstrating more clear advantages over common alternatives such as speed and weight.
