Matador BV is a service-oriented company, founded in 1895 and located in Helvoirt, the Netherlands. The company consists of around 15000 square meters with more than 95 professionals and over 100 years of experience in metal technology. They mainly manufacture a complete range of wheelbarrows, hand truck, platform trolleys, and tools for construction.

Interview with Matjeu van Kasteren, Marketing at Matador BV.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Matjeu van Kasteren: WELDED STEEL & ALUMINUM PRODUCTS

Matador BV supplies a wide range of articles. We produce from our standard range and some products are produced on customer request. With our Full-Service Concept (FSC) we can develop and produce almost everything in-house; an efficient and cost-effective advantage.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

M.v.K: Innovation is always high on the agenda at Matador BV. For this reason, our development team is constantly working on the development of new products. In addition, we also regularly try to evaluate existing products to see if improvements are possible.

Recently, we have been working very hard on the launch of our full electric multi-tool the M-Trac 2.0. With this, we have created a fully electric competitor for the current fuel machines. The main advantages are no CO2 emissions, no exhaust fumes, fewer vibrations & very low noise level.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

M.v.K: We have a complete range of hundreds of products. Our products can be divided into the following product categories.

  • Wheelbarrows
  • Handtrucks
  • Platformtrucks & Rollcontainers
  • Workspace (ergonomic chairs and tables)
  • E-Matador (Our electrical products range)
  • Locks & security

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

M.v.K: We think the market is in the mature stage of the product life cycle. 

Of course, this does not apply to the entire product range. We notice that the cheaper non-ergonomic models are increasingly entering the decline phase. Because the target group values quality and ergonomics more and more. 

Furthermore, we see that our electrical products are now in the growth phase.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

M.v.K: We at Matador BV mainly notice that aluminum is becoming increasingly popular compared to steel. This is a very light material with the same and sometimes even better strength capabilities as steel.

We also notice that the market asks for electrification of products. 

Finally, ergonomic importance is becoming more and more important in the purchase decision of the target group.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

M.v.K: We would describe the M-Trac 2.0 as the most innovative at the moment. Because it not only contributes to the market development of our industry, but it contributes to many other markets like city and green management.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2022?

M.v.K: Therefore, we expect the market trends mentioned to play out further. Electrification, ergonomics, and the use of aluminum will increasingly become the norm.
