INTERVIEW WITH MECÁNICA COMERCIAL MECO

With over 40 years of accumulated experience, MECÁNICA COMERCIAL MECO, is a company run by the Peirón family, developing advanced mechanical engineering projects that might involve designs based on customer needs or MECO’s own innovations or creations. In over four decades, MECO has also become the most reliable industrial maintenance partner in the most important factories in its zone of influence.

In the year 2000, MECO developed an innovative keyseater or slotting machine that was quite a revolution in the sector thanks to its high precision, speed and ease of use. This is a patented system, fully developed by the MECO team that has already installed it successfully in over 30 countries all over the world. In addition to selling several types of machine-tool and implanting its industrial maintenance service, MECO has now entered a phase of developing revolutionary new machines such as the circular and variable section cavity polishers (moulds for glass, plastic…), and the ISF (Incremental Sheet Forming) 3D technology, with which it is now possible to manufacture metal sheet parts with complex forms for prototypes or short runs.

After over 40 years working on design, construction and maintenance of industrial equipment, they have over 500 customers all over the world to back them up. Committed to their values, the team works day by day to make progress and so they are constantly developing improvements and innovating thanks to their own RTD+i Department.

Interview with Juan José Peirón Miguel, CEO of MECO.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Juan José Peirón Miguel: Our action is divided in two areas: Meco Services, dedicated to the industial manteinance, and Meco Machines from where are born our machine-tool both in standard production and in special customised projects.

E.E: What’s the news for 2021 about new products?

J.J.P.M: This year we are proud to finish one of the largest keyseaters produced in Europe, for an Ucranian customer, to be delivered next April. This huge arc-structured machine has the 4 axis coordinated by real-CNC software and can do all kind of cutting jobs in pieces up to 3000mm in diameter.

This major project shows how far we are capable of developing highly complex machines at Meco.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

J.J.P.M: Our main standard machines are the keyseaters, which we entirely design and manufacture in our facilities near to Barcelona. Other standard machines that we regularly produce are the mold polishers mainly for the glass industry and the ISF (Incremental Sheet Forming) machines.

On the other hand, our Technical Office has the strength of boarding all kind of customised machine designs for a wide range of industries.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

J.J.P.M: It seems that the iron and steel industry, and in particular the metal-mechanical sector, is coping quite well with the crisis.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

J.J.P.M: In terms of innovation in its overall conception, our greatest achievement is the creation of the complex ISF (Incremental Sheet Forming) system. We have several units working and we are particularly proud of our ingenuity and technological and constructive capacity to have developed this machine, with the support of EureCat.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2021?

J.J.P.M: Despite the current complex situation resulting from the pandemic and the economic recession it has brought about, we can be proud of maintaining our workforce and a very positive production rate, which even allows us to acquire new, extremely high-precision measuring equipment such as a laser interferometer, which will provide us with a previously unattainable precision capacity to certify the well-known accuracy of our machines.
