INTERVIEW WITH MEYSTYLE

Meystyle was founded by sisters Maria and Ekaterina Yaschuk who invented LED wallpaper as an MA degree project at Central Saint Martin’s college in 2004.

The company designs patterns, materials and technologies that integrate light into wall coverings and offers endless possibilities to shift the focal point and bring new dimensions to interios spaces.

Interview with Maria & Ekaterina Yaschuk, Directors at Meystyle.

Easy Engineering: A brief description of the company and its activities.

Maria & Ekaterina Yaschuk: We make LED and OLED wallpaper.

Wallpaper by day and a source of lighting at night, the lights can be switched on and off to quickly transform and add character to a space.  LED and OLED Wallpaper has the power to enhance or disguise architectural elements and create moods or focal points within a room.

It is a rich and flexible medium for the user to play with and express their creativity. It is light weight and adds no thickness to the wall, it is malleable, which makes it a perfect material for covering pillars, niches and corners. LED Wallpaper has the unravelled capacity to create a powerful feature without taking up any space in the room.

E.E: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Maria & Ekaterina Yaschuk: LED wallpaper was invented and remains the unique idea of sisters Maria and Ekaterina Yaschuk. Starting on the floor of their student flat in 2004 as a college project LED wallpaper is now sold all over the world with a distinguished commercial and residential client base. Our leading markets currently include America, China and the Middle East.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

Maria & Ekaterina Yaschuk: There is always something new being developed in the studio. We combine, manipulate, and adorn textures with the only purpose to communicate a unique and distinct vision that we have for each of the patterns and collection that we design.

In 2022 We Launched Illusions of Entropy which is the first collection to feature white digital inks. This feature has allowed us to take texture and design to a new level, previously all whites had to be negative space that was unfilled by ink which was difficult to work with. This feature is especially noticeable in our Moon design which was our lead image at this year’s Salone del Mobile. We encourage you to see on our web page or on Instagram.

We are also currently redesigning some of our more classical collection of the past by using our latest technologies and colour developments to give them a new lease of life. These will be available on our web page from September this year.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

Maria & Ekaterina Yaschuk: We design patterns, materials and technologies that integrate lights into wallcoverings. We work with a number of natural materials including linen and silk as well as more commercial vinyl textures.

At Meystyle each piece of wallpaper is unique and hand made to measure.

Two years ago, using our years of experience and unique artesian techniques we brought out a prêt- à- porter selection of designer LED wallpaper called the YY-SHOP.

It has been a long-term ambition of ours to make LED wallpaper that is readily available but still adaptable enough to be integrated into any project.

The YY shop features some of our most classic designs adapted into a ready to buy mural format.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

Maria & Ekaterina Yaschuk: The market for luxury products is as strong now as ever. The over production and mass popularization of products has made unique and individually personalized products even more cherished by those who want to see true quality.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

Maria & Ekaterina Yaschuk:Market trends vary from market to market and on who is observing and interpreting trends. A lot of accent is currently placed on AI technologies. We too are investigating the potential but our approach is not to replace humans in design origination, but to see how we can adapt and integrate and use it as a new media.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

Maria & Ekaterina Yaschuk: True innovation is now in the hands of the few non ultra commercialized designers who value quality, materials and style. Mass market products have blurred into one in colour and shape.

We want to see more young designers who break out of trends to bring a fresh vision for design of the future.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?

Maria & Ekaterina Yaschuk: We will continue to innovate and have a new collection that we are currently working on. We hope to launch it before the end of the year and it will be full of surprises and innovation for our audience.
