INTERVIEW WITH MTB

MTB is a French nonferrous recycler and a recycling equipment manufacturer in metals field. Thanks to its 40 years’ experience, the company has become a leader in innovative recycling solutions. MTB’s objective is to be able to recycle yesterday’s, today’s and tomorrow’s waste.

To meet the exemplary circular economy, MTB follows three guidelines:

Premium quality: to ensure high return on investment, high secondary material quality and equipment longevity.

Zero waste: to develop recycling process capacity to avoid residual waste and valorize all types of materials.

For Our Children: to act for future generations by respecting the environment, and defending a sustainable economic model.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

MTB: MTB three main activities are:

Waste treatment: preserving natural resources by transforming complex and poorly recovered waste into high quality secondary raw material.

Recycling equipment manufacturing: Designing and manufacturing an innovative range of machines: pre-shredders, shredders, granulators to help processors maximize their recycling and raw material quality.

Ecodesign and innovation: supporting industrial companies in developing ecodesigned products. Working hand-in-hand to improve new products composal and recycling possibilities.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

MTB: Since 2020, MTB expands its equipment range to provide a wide variety of solutions for all types of waste. New equipment have been designed as the pre-shredder EZR for ferrous recycling, the shredder with vertical pushers BVR for batteries recycling or the maxi granulator BST for solid recovered fuel.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

MTB: MTB’s wide range of equipment extends from full recycling lines to turnkey and compact lines. MTB created the recycling line in a container! It’s a range of ready-to-use lines made up of a series of MTB machines contained in one or various containers.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active? / What can you tell us about market trends?

MTB: Currently, the context is favorable for our market. For example, the scarcity of metals, the development of European guidelines on recycling, the waste exports bans encourage the actors to raise questions about recycling. As the market is expanding very fast, more and more industrial want to stop wasting materials and to give value to their scrap. MTB is working in a plurality of fields such as: automotive, batteries, nuclear, or sports to develop new mechanical approaches to recover materials.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

MTB: In the Box range of MTB, a recycling line for lithium-ion batteries scrap has been developed recently, it’s called The Drycell Box. MTB’s innovation team has been pushing hard to implement efficient battery recycling solutions. The operational equipment Drycell Box solves the problem of the first sources of waste : production scrap from the gigafactories. Its objective is to recover as much material from the anode, cathode and dry cells as possible. The recycling process is contained in a few containers for an easier and modular installation.

Thanks to the Drycell Box, customers recover clean outputs metal (aluminum and copper), plastics, casings, and blackmass. Further developments are underway for complete batteries or accumulators from electronic devices.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2022?

MTB: During the last two years with the COVID19, the company has been working and investing on research, innovation and development. Activity in the first half of 2022 has been more intense than previously. With the current economic situation in Europe, we can affirm that the coming years will be strategic for the recycling market and for ensuring the independence of metal resources in Europe.
