INTERVIEW WITH MULTIHOG

Multihog Ltd is a company based in Louth, Ireland manufacturing multipurpose tractors and sweepers for export markets worldwide. All R&D and manufacturing are carried out at its global headquarters in Louth, Ireland. The company was founded by Jim McAdam in 2008 to fill a gap in the market for high quality, versatile, multi-purpose maintenance vehicles. Multihog products are sold in almost 30 countries worldwide, through a large network of authorised dealers.

Easy engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

MULTIHOG: Multihog designs and manufactures a range of multi-purpose tractors and sweepers for municipal, airport, sanitation, and facilities maintenance sectors. The vehicles are fitted with interchangeable attachments on the front and rear. Attachments range from snow plows, snow blowers and brine sprayers, to sweepers, grass mowers and high-pressure washers. The multifunctionality of the vehicles ensures that they are used year-round, rather than seasonally, reducing costs and maximising cost-efficiency for users.

E.E: What’s the news for 2021 about new products?

MULTIHOG: Multihog has a dedicated R&D team working full-time on an ambitious project pipeline. The team also works hard to upgrade and improve our current product offering in line with ever stricter emissions standards. At this time, we do not have any announcements regarding new products.

E.E: What are the ranges of traded products?

MULTIHOG: We offer a range of multi-purpose tractors and sweepers in a range of sizes. All of our tractors and sweepers can be fitted with various attachments on both the front and the rear. This allows them to transform into snow plows, snow blowers, brine sprayers, grass mowers, asphalt planers, high pressure washers and more. Our newest offering, the CV model, is a multi-purpose sweeper which is compact, articulated and powerful.

Our CX range of tractors are perfect for municipal and contractor use, as their compact, articulated build allows them to easily access restricted urban areas.

Our MX range offers customers 3 different tractor sizes depending on width and height requirements. The MH is the largest tractor we offer and is popular in regions where sidewalks and streets are not particularly narrow. Like all of the vehicles in our range, it’s powerful, articulated, and most importantly, comfortable for the operator.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

MULTIHOG: As our products are built for essential services such as sanitation, road repair and grounds care, the market has remained quite steady to date. Of course, we also sell our products to the aviation sector, which has been badly hit by the COVID-19 crisis. While Multihog’s business was originally built on the requirement for winter service vehicles to carry out snow blowing, snow plowing and de-icing, recent milder winters have encouraged us to re-assess our product offering. Our newest innovation, the multi-purpose CV sweeper, allows us to enter new markets in regions with warmer climates. We are excited to bring some of Multihog’s innovative vehicles to customers in these areas.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

MULTIHOG: We see the market demanding more and more versatile, multifunctional products. With tighter public budgets, municipal departments and contractors alike are re-assessing their fleets, seeking optimisation and efficiency to justify large capital expenditures. Of course, another trend in vehicle manufacturing is the movement towards cleaner, greener engines and vehicles. Meeting ever-stricter emissions regulations around the world is a challenge that our R&D team continues to meet, and we strive to stay ahead of our competition in that respect.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

MULTIHOG: Our new multi-purpose CV sweeper is a really innovative new offering from Multihog. It is a multi-purpose vehicle which is primarily designed as a sweeper, but which can also operate as a snow plow and salt spreader or brine sprayer in the winter months. In spring it can be used as a pressure washer or weed brush and in the summer, it can mow grass. It has all of the ‘Multihog DNA’ that our other products have; a comfortable cabin, powerful engine, articulated body and robust build. One CV sweeper can carry out a lot of universal maintenance tasks such as sweeping, street washing, weed removal, grass mowing, and winter services.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2021?

MULTIHOG: We are hopeful that the global economy will bounce back from a tough 2020, and we are looking forward to having our sales team back on the road, visiting customers and dealers, and demonstrating our vehicles.
