INTERVIEW WITH ORCHESTRA

Orchestra is an innovative startup founded in 2016 at I3P, the business incubator at the Polytechnic of Turin. The company aims to design and market new technology and solutions for INDUSTRY4.0 under its “CLOUD DRIVEN EDGE COMPUTING” paradigm. The company’s RETUNER product portfolio, is designed to specifically address the international market of SMEs through a business partner network, able to sell and support ORCHESTRA solutions in different geographical areas. As they have many active customers in process and discrete manufacturing already using RETUNER solutions in Italy, Orchestra has begun an internationalization process to enter other European and Chinese markets. Initially the company will do this by seeking partners as System Integrators, Independent SW vendors and machine builders.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

ORCHESTRA: ORCHESTRA solutions help manufacturers to bridge the gap between operational technologies and the ICT systems of the company.

The RETUNER benefits are:

-Control of the production order progress;

-Monitoring of production performances and prevention of downtimes;

-Prediction of malfunctions and real-time checking of work conditions;

-Maintenance of factory efficiency and enforcement of product quality.

The solutions are based on interoperable hardware and software products, able to intelligently connect any new and existing machines, production equipment and lines, either indoor or outdoor. Row data is transformed into valuable information at different levels of the IIoT stack, making it available to different users either in proximity at the machine edge, on the shopfloor or remotely over the CLOUD.

E.E: What’s the news for 2020 about new products?

ORCHESTRA: ORCHESTRA’s 2020 plan includes new releases of some of its products.

1) A new SMARTEdge4.0 hardware component is under design to allow more proximity digital services to support users next to the machinery on the shop floor with Augmented Reality, real time AI algorithms and machine control functions under a straight CLOUD interoperability.

These newly offered capabilities are in line with the strategy of ORCHESTRA product development to maintain the trademark of Smart Systems Integrated Products https://www.retuner.eu/en/news/orchestra-products-are-smart-systems-integrated/, granted to the company in 2018 by EPoSS (The European Platform On Smart Systems Integrated).

2) A new MINImes4.0 version will be released before the summer to give SME’s more flexibility and resilience capabilities, adding functionalities for remote planning and control to production progress tracking.

E.E: What are the ranges of traded products?

ORCHESTRA: We offer turnkey bid solutions, ready to be used including the MINIMes4.0 product, at an average price of € 2.500,00 per connected machine in production.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

ORCHESTRA: INDUSTRY 4.0 represents the worldwide SME’s in manufacturing industries current demand for growth in productivity, quality and safety, providing affordable and sustainable solutions for small businesses. Our offering has been specifically designed to answer their requirements addressing short term return of investments right now. Thus we were able to partner UMATI, the Universal Machine Tool Interface initiative by VDW (German Machine Tool Builder association), showcasing RETUNER  at EMO in Hannover at the end of 2019 https://www.retuner.eu/en/news/orchestra-umati-partner/.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

ORCHESTRA: Manufacturing is a growing global market, where SME’s represent the backbone of each economy in every geographical area. Small Businesses will grow and expand throughout the world, supported by the digitalization of their production processes, a strong requisite to serve medium and big enterprises through different supply chains.

In times of pandemic the company development trend known as Industry 4.0 is becoming more and more important. The digitalization of enterprises, combined with more automation and robotization of production processes, will allow not only the remote control of many company functions, but also will be the principal instrument for guaranteeing the health and safety of workers whilst making production processes more flexible in times of greater stress, whatever the cause.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

ORCHESTRA: The entire RETUNER suite is based on the “Cloud Driven Edge Computing” paradigm where our all-in-one SMARTEdge4.0 product plays a crucial role in hosting and executing AI algorithms and digital services at the edge, in real time, setting itself according to the machinery, the process and events occurring during the production phase.

Thanks to a high interoperability and its distributed architecture, the RETUNER suite allows a generic dynamic measurement of any physical event, offering new added value proximity digital services:

-AR for process and maintenance activities around the machine;

-Remote setting of machine parameters;

-Virtual sensors for predictive maintenance and digital twin improvement.

The entire suite is completed by MINIMes4.0, the Orchestra MES (manufacturing execution system) proposal designed for those small businesses that want to begin the digitization of their production processes.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2020?

ORCHESTRA: Due to Covid19 we currently foresee our next period of growth to be in 2021, with results this year staying stable at the level of 2019. The company growth strategy remains focused on our international market expansion program.
