Interview with Laurie Barton, Director of Marketing at SawStop

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Laurie Barton: Manufacturing tools (primarily table saws and associated accessories) that protect and inspire woodworkers.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

L.B: The latest addition to the SawStop product line up is the new 10” Compact Table Saw that provides all the features users have come to expect from a SawStop – such as power, precision, cut capacity, and revolutionary safety system – in our most compact and portable saw yet.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

L.B: Industrial Cabinet Saw, Professional Cabinet Saw, Contractor Saw, Jobsite Saw Pro, and the Compact Table Saw, as well as accessories such as dust collection, sliding tables, mobile bases, blades, brakes, and more.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

L.B: Generally, the woodworking industry is a fairly mature market.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

L.B: After a few very strong years with increased demand for hobbyist woodworking during the pandemic, there is some uncertainty as a result of inflation and other global events.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

L.B: Every table saw we offer comes equipped with our patented AIM safety system that stops the spinning blade on contact with skin and drops it below the table top in less than 5 milliseconds.

E.E: What estimations do you have for the rest of 2022?

L.B: We are excited about the recent launch of our Compact Table Saw (September, 2022) and bringing SawStop’s proven safety technology to all new markets of saw users.
