Easy Engineering: How was 2021 for your business, a short summary?

Scheurer Swiss: The year 2021 was challenging in that some projects, particularly in the space sector, were suspended due to compromised supply chains for composite materials. Accordingly, staffing needs were greatly reduced. This is an important area for us.

E.E: What new products/services will be launched this year?

Scheurer Swiss: In 2022, we will expand our services in various areas. Firstly, we plan to expand our training offer. We are in discussion with trade schools and international carbon fiber suppliers who have announced a need for employee training. Secondly, we will further expand our 3D printing offer and make it available via our existing webshop. In the area of engineering, we are currently working on a pilot project with a major American company from the medical sector with the aim of going into international series production with the mature product in 2022. After the pandemic decline in 2021 due to the situation, we will also be able to increase our staff leasing business again, thanks to projects that are starting up again, especially in the aerospace sector. We will also reconsider our presence at international trade fairs, which we have completely reduced in the last two years due to the global situation, in order to advise potential customers personally about our broad range of services in the fields of engineering, personnel hire, 3D printing and training.

E.E: How did the market change in the last year?

Scheurer Swiss: Due to the pandemic situation, projects were cancelled, the uncertainty was great. The industry is still cautious, especially with regard to the planning and implementation of projects, the hiring of employees and the planning or commitment to trade fairs. However, the market is increasingly stabilizing. Projects are slowly starting up again. The need for staff is growing again. Due to the reduced number of projects, more emphasis could be placed on research and development as well as on internet presence.

E.E: What were the best-selling products of 2021?

Scheurer Swiss: Last year we saw a strong increase in orders for 3D-printed components. We also provided consulting support for several projects at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich in the field of engineering and created CAD data for various customers.

E.E: What sector of business do you think is expected to grow this year?

Scheurer Swiss: In our view, 3D printing is clearly the future of production technology and already accounts for a large share of production today. For good reason: additive manufacturing is currently one of the most modern lightweight construction technologies and is shaping the future of the manufacturing industry like hardly any other process. The intention is clear: even more flexibility, creativity and cost efficiency in product development.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2022?

Scheurer Swiss: The new year holds a lot of potential, especially in the field of additive manufacturing and staff leasing. Thanks to our roots in Formula 1 motorsport, Scheurer Swiss brings over thirty years of experience in the field of lightweight construction and is the only provider in Switzerland to offer the complete service: from consulting, design and engineering to production, including 3D printing – and all from a single source. We are ready for an exciting, successful 2022 and will be happy to advise you!

E.E: A short message for collaborators for the beginning of the year.

Scheurer Swiss: Well done! We would like to thank our staff and the professionals we placed with them for their tireless efforts, despite the difficult conditions. If we continue in the same direction, 2022 will be a successful year.
