Spider New Technology was founded as a joint venture of the companies DVOŘÁK – svahové sekačky s.r.o. and SMAUT Technology, s.r.o.. DVOŘÁK – svahové sekačky s.r.o. has been on the market since 2004, and it is one of the leaders in the mass production of remote-controlled lawn mowers. The company sells its products in 50 countries around the world. SMAUT Technology s.r.o. was established in 2021. However, its founders and employees have been focusing on developing autonomous devices for many years. They can offer accurate satellite navigation technologies, including software systems for various applications.

Interview with Ing. Vincenc Šopík, Head of R&D of Autonomous Systems at Spider New Technology.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Vincenc Šopík: Our company is developing and certifying new product called Spider Autonomous 2.0. It is the only existing commercial autonomous lawn mower suitable even for a complicated terrain. Besides that, our development and research team are constantly working on improvements and new ideas.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

V.Š: As we mentioned before, our new product is Spider Autonomous 2.0. We are presently certifying it. It is the only autonomous lawn mower suitable for rough and sloping terrains. Our lawn mower consists of the tried-and-tested patented chassis of industrial remote control Spider lawn mowers and a highly precise navigation system. Precise navigation system is made up of differential GPS navigation D-GPS, enabling the machine to move along a measured route while mowing. Unlike commonly used robotic lawn mowers, the Spider Autonomous 2.0 does not need any perimeter wires to delimit the work area. The mower is located by satellite navigation supplemented with a differential signal, which provides centimeter-level accuracy. As the result, our autonomous mower brings up to 30 % higher efficiency, lowers operator costs up to 38 %, and offers universal use.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

V.Š: Our products are the world first autonomous lawn mowers to maintain extreme, inaccessible grass areas like photovoltaic powerplants, vineyards and any other large areas even with slopes up to 35°.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

V.Š: Our market is constantly growing and evolving into new challenges. We have noticed, that customers demand of more new technologies, that allow them to lower operating costs. As well as they are focused on environment needs too.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

V.Š: The biggest trend in our market is automatization and sustainability. On top of that, many costumers are thinking about environment, as we mentioned before. With respect to this, our development is able to respect this request. So, we are working on new ideas that cover the request of our customers and meets sustainable development.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

V.Š: As we stated before, our new product Spider Autonomous 2.0. Spider New technology already sets new standard in efficiency and safety. In addition, our product is environmentally friendly thanks to lowering fuel consumption, easy transportation and precision control. With launching our new product to the market, we believe that we are setting new standard in lawn mowing.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2022?

V.Š: By doing free demonstration of our product, we have to say, that our expectations are pretty high. From every demonstration we have really helpful feedback and that helps us to improve our product. Moreover, we will finish certification of SA 2.0, so we will be starting our sales and supporting our new costumers.
