INTERVIEW WITH SYKES-PICKAVANT

Sykes-Pickavant is a market-leader in specialist automotive and industrial solutions with a product range which is regularly updated to meet the changing requirements posed by vehicle and equipment design. Many products in the range have evolved from original solutions which have stood the test of time, whilst others have been especially created to tackle more modern issues as they’ve surfaced.

Sykes-Pickavant BeSPoke is a dedicated service offering clients specific project related design and development unique to satisfying their demands.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

SYKES-PICKAVANT: The newly launched B2B portal from Sykes-Pickavant is a big focus for us currently and is proving to be a great success. It’s now easier than ever to place orders; the new online interface provides customers with easy purchasing as well as a range of delivery options and the ability to track orders which have been placed using the system.

E.E: What’s the news for 2021 about new products?

SYKES-PICKAVANT: We have introduced a selection of new puller options to extend our already popular range including five new 2 & 3 Jaw Self Centring Pullers for which the jaws are connected by a self-centring mechanism for simultaneous movement, improving the placement of the puller on the work piece if in an unsuitable position. A selection of Reversible 2 Jaw Mechanical Pullers has also joined the range offering internal and external pulling solutions.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

SYKES-PICKAVANT: The current product range covers Torque, Engine, Suspension, Hybrid, Bodyshop, Workshop Equipment, Lighting, Braking and continues to be a world leader in both Mechanical and Hydraulic Pulling and Extracting products, for the removal of anything from bearings, to gears, flywheels, races and seals.

The Loadstar puller range is continuing to prove popular, offering Heavy Duty Hydraulic pulling solutions from 8 – 50 tones.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

SYKES-PICKAVANT: The market is mature but still evolving with innovation leading the way forward along with the move to electric power sources in a number of sectors.

This creates new opportunities and means the focus of the market is expanding.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

SYKES-PICKAVANT: Tools for the repair of equipment / machinery has continued to be strong as people look for quality products and local supply from the UK or Europe.  The business has experienced a high demand for spare parts due to restricted capital budgets as a result of Covid and we believe this is something that can be seen across the market. The new B2B portal makes it easier for customers to purchase spare parts by listing a full spare parts range for each product with up-to-date images for easy identification.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

SYKES-PICKAVANT: Innovation comes in different sectors – we have great interest in hand held induction heaters – our range covers all options; 240v, 110v and battery which are popular across the board.

We have an extendable puller leg system which allows to the lengthen the legs for extra reach in an easy and affordable way rather than buying a new puller.

We have new industrial heavy duty torque wrenches which now split in 2 for easy carrying and storage which means potentially they stay in calibration longer as they are protected from external damage.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2021?

SYKES-PICKAVANT: 2021 will see the centenary of Sykes-Pickavant who is proud of its strong heritage and longstanding ethics of supplying high quality, practical and time saving products to the automotive and industrial sectors. Overall, we see growth opportunities as supply shifts away from the far east and back to consistent local supply.
