INTERVIEW WITH TASKING

TASKING is a well-established provider of solutions for embedded software development. TASKING’s compilers meet their customers’ functional safety and cybersecurity requirements and provide best-in-class performance.

The compiler is delivered together with an embedded debugger, tools for multicore performance analysis and verification such as Safety Checker. It is designed to support developers throughout the entire software development process.

Interview with Rudolf Grave, Director of Product Tooling and New Technologies at TASKING.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Rudolf Grave: TASKING’s main area of expertise are compilers and tools for safety projects in the transportation market.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

R.G: TASKING continuously provides updates for its products, such as SmartCode – a set of compilers for Infineon’s AURIXÔ TC4xx. In the first half of 2022, we added more ARM targets to our VX-toolchain with TRAVEOÔ T2G and released the TriCore Inspector, a tool for software quality analysis. On the roadmap are further device support for ARC cores and a new Safety Checker with enriched usability.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

R.G: The compiler toolchain provides broad target support for embedded devices. Device support also for customer specific devices can be added quickly. For this you just need to contact our sales team.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

R.G: TASKING’s major market is the automotive industry. The automotive industry is currently transforming into a software-driven world. This has a huge impact on companies, architecture and technologies. TASKING is prepared to support this change with its safety products for software-defined vehicles.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

R.G: The increase in HPC/Zonal architecture, heterogeneous and even OEM-specific SoCs will create a need for dedicated compiler and development tools to enable efficient software development. TASKING’s strength is to support this development especially for safety and performance critical applications and services.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

R.G: TASKING SmartCode even provides compiler support for the new Parallel Processing Unit (PPU) from Synopsys, one of the key enhancements in the next generation AURIX™ TC4xx microcontroller family, enabling fast neural network processing on embedded devices. A second innovative topic is the TASKING TriCore Inspector, which enables tool-assisted errata analysis, saving developers a tremendous amount of time.

E.E: What estimations do you have for the rest of 2022?

R.G: The economic situation is challenging, but we are confident that projects will be started in the automotive industry for which our tools are needed. As software is growing everywhere, we will grow with it and even more so with our well-prepared product strategy. To sustain our growth, we have several open positions in different locations – join our journey and apply now.
