INTERVIEW WITH TECOI

TECOI is a high-tech company that offers advanced solutions for the plate processing industry. TECOI systems use laser, oxyfuel and plasma cutting technologies, as well as machining and milling, to reach the highest available productivity levels.

The company takes full responsibility for the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of all its processing stations, either in its standard range or tailor-made to the customer’s specific needs. TECOI also stands out for the creation of its own software, which, alongside its strategy mainly based on the full automation and integration of the production, has led the company to become an Industry 4.0 world reference.

Founded in 1995 in Northern Spain, TECOI has maintained continuous growth since its inception. Nowadays, although TECOI offers a vast range of products that allows the company to meet any demands, the company is better known for its large dimensions projects, specifically, its laser cutting machines and its exclusive developments for some of the top global shipyards and wind power manufacturers.

Interview with Luis Ederra, Business Development Manager for Central-South Europe at TECOI.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Luis Ederra: TECOI develops plate processing stations for all the metal transformation sectors in the world. TECOI technologies are currently present in service centers, steel mills, shipyards, civil works, machinery manufacturing facilities, railway & automobile industries, onshore and offshore wind power factories, pressure vessels, petrochemical, aeronautical and military sectors. TECOI models are suitable to any industry that requires high quality and productivity in the manufacturing of its products.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

L.E: Currently, the company is exploring two important lines of development. First, TECOI has designed an exclusive multy-gantry laser cutting machine that

extends the possibilities of the laser series to new heights. This innovative system allows the different gantries, each one fitted with multiple laser heads, to work either together in a collaborative way or simultaneously autonomous, adapting themselves to the production needs. Apart from providing great savings in time and resources, this solution represents significant progress in the field of sheet metal processing stations and, more specifically, in what refers to laser cutting.

On the other hand, TECOI is proud to introduce its brand-new TRF PowerDrive model, an even more improved version of its prestigious edge milling station whose machining capabilities have no precedent in the industry. State-of-the-art technologies converge with years of experience in shipyards and wind power factories to create the TRF PowerDrive model. With up to 300mm milling capacity, TECOI’s lastest development brings a new power horizon yet-to-explore.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

L.E: TECOI’s main line of business lies in its sheet metal cutting and processing stations. In this field, TECOI has a very diverse range of products that allow the company to meet all kinds of industrial needs: from simple and compact machines, suitable for moderate productions, to large installations prepared to face very high workloads and to respond to the most demanding requirements.

In addition, the company also offers exclusive accessories designed to complement and facilitate the cutting process. One of them is its well-known STOCKTEC, an automatic sheet metal storage system developed entirely by TECOI that enables the material to be stored directly from the machine in an autonomous way and to be available at any time. Constantly interconnected with the processing stations, STOCKTEC is a great example of what Industry 4.0 means.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

L.E: The truth is that, despite the many phenomena that are currently conditioning the market worldwide, with some of them being very serious and grave, such as the war in Ukraine, the inflation, the generalized shortage of raw materials, the problems in the supply chain, the persistence of Covid-19… the industrial and machine tool segment in which TECOI operates continues to be in great shape,

sustained above all by a high demand for products that truly guarantee productive increases. The renewal of the industry that some European countries are carrying out is one of the reasons that explain the high resistance of this sector to the current macroeconomic turbulences.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

L.E: As we say, despite the high uncertainty that currently prevails in the markets, the industrial sector is proving to be very solid. Although a slowdown can be expected by the incoming autumn, we believe that it will not reach our markets until well into 2023, so we are cautiously optimistic about what this period can bring.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

L.E: In line with what has been said, we see that the market is moving in directions in which TECOI has been working for a long time, such as automation and productive integration, two of the fundamental pillars of what is known as Industry 4.0. In this sense, TECOI has put all its experience at the service of the development of highly innovative technologies that truly represent structural advances. A good example of this is the SOLOMON system, an exclusive software designed entirely by TECOI that allows the complete interconnection of the processing stations and, consequently, their joint action, guaranteeing not only significant production increases but also absolute control of all processes.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2022?

L.E: 2022 is being a great year for TECOI and we expect what’s left of the year to maintain the positive momentum. In fact, despite being only in August, we have beaten our worldwide sales record, thanks to the good performance we have achieved in our traditional markets and to the growth registered in some of our newer ones. We hope that we can chain this successful inertia to upcoming exercises.
