INTERVIEW WITH TOPOLWATER

TopolWater was established by Ing. Jan Topol in 1990, originally as a design office for water management structures. With the implementation of its own internationally patented technologies, the company’s activities gradually focused on the production of containerised wastewater treatment plants and the independent supply of treatment technologies. The company was transformed in 2020 into TopolWater, s.r.o.

TopolWater maintains its leading position through excellent development of new technologies, which it now has patented worldwide.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

TOPAS domestic wastewater treatment plants

These systems are used in single-family dwellings and holiday homes, by municipalities, and at smaller establishments as compact, stand-alone plastic containers. They excel thanks to high efficiency, reliable operation, and fully automated control over the treatment process which is optimized depending on the quantity and quality of wastewater.

MONOBLOK-T and FLEXIDIBLOK municipal wastewater treatment plants

This type of plant is based on a system with SBR reactors. The operation of the treatment plant is controlled by an industrial computer, which optimizes the operation of the treatment plant in real time depending on the amount and pollution of wastewater and monitors the functionality of individual components.

Industrial wastewater treatment plants

These plants are specifically for establishments that are primarily focused on the food and meatpacking industries, and agricultural enterprises. They are also based on SBR technology, but the biological stage is preceded by a number of different levels of chemical and mechanical pre-treatment stages, depending on the nature of the specific wastewater.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

Control unit with Wi-Fi connectivity – provides full control over the wastewater treatment plant, with the ability to configure the system and check its status using an app on a smart device (mobile phone, laptop or tablet). The unit is ready for smart home integration.

Ease of use – the control unit continuously monitors the quantity of wastewater and automatically optimises wastewater treatment plant operation without the need for operator intervention.

Recreational use – the wastewater treatment plant automatically switches to a special mode when flow stops completely (i.e., in a holiday home) which ensures full biological functionality. WWTP TOPAS was tested by an independent special laboratory to maintain function for three to six months without inflow.

Energy savings – all energy consumption depends on the measured volume of wastewater. The electricity consumption is minimised during reduced or no wastewater inflow.

Operation flexibility – the accumulation tank at the inlet ensures the equalization of the impact inflows.

Automatic sludge removal– the control unit enables regular pumping of excess sludge from the bioreactor into a separate sludge tank.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

The company is ready to provide wastewater treatment plants for capacities ranging from 1 house to a neighbourhood with up to 50,000 residents at the highest technical level. TOPAS domestic wastewater treatment plants are typically produced for population equivalents of up to 400. MONOBLOK-T and FLEXIDIBLOK municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants are delivered in concrete tanks with capacities for population equivalents from 400 to 50,000.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

The company TopolWater supplies products worldwide, but primarily operates in the European market. Currently, we are most active in the Czech Republic, Sweden, and Norway. We collaborate with local partners who handle sales and service in these regions.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

Since our company is closely specialized in the production of wastewater treatment plants, all the development that takes place is focused on their improvement and comfort of operation. We have completed the development of a new TOM control unit, which is controlled via an app on any smart mobile device (mobile phone, tablet, laptop, etc.) The control unit automatically regulates the performance of the WWTP based on the amount of water flowing in.
The development of municipal wastewater treatment plants with the trade names MONOBLOK-T and FLEXIDIBLOK is moving towards greater automation, comfortable operation and remote control. Since the beginning of its operations, the company has focused on the development of technologies that meet the increased requirements necessary to integrate them into a decentralised wastewater treatment system.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

Topas is a unique wastewater treatment plant with an original patented solution. The control unit itself was developed specifically for this WWTP. The program of the control unit has been tested and gradually improved on thousands of installations not only in the Czech Republic, but especially in Western countries such as Sweden, Norway, France and others. The TOPAS WWTP is the only small wastewater treatment plant that continuously measures the amount of wastewater and, based on a special program, automatically limits the amount of air in the treatment plant according to the amount of wastewater. This means a substantial reduction in electricity consumption without any operator.

E.E: What estimations do you have for the rest of 2023?

In 2023, we were concerned about a decrease in sales due to the current economic situation, but this concern did not materialize. On the contrary, we maintained sales at the level of 2022, which we consider a significant success. Many companies faced a substantial decline this year, so we value this outcome. For the upcoming period, we already have contracts in place, so we anticipate ending this year on a positive note.
