INTERVIEW WITH ULTIMATE EUROPE

ULTIMATE is a very successful international group of companies with approximately 1800 employees and worldwide locations in Austria, Poland, Romania, Turkey, USA, China and Australia.

ULTIMATE Europe, headquartered in Amstetten (Lower Austria), is a young, dedicated team of 130 people that moves the world! Whether on the street, the expressway or the underground – the main thing is to get there safely.

The company develops, sells and serves a broad product portfolio ranging from transitions, automatic door systems to interior fittings for rail vehicles. 

Finding these three product areas in one company is unique in their industry – so they can deliver complete solutions from a single source.

The company is certified to the latest rail vehicle standards according to IRIS and ISO. They supply OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and Refurbishment customers. 

ULTIMATE Romania, located in Craiova, is a team of over 90 people, specialized in manufacturing interior and exterior GRP parts for the railway industry. ULTIMATE Romania is also certified according to IRIS, ISO, as well as for bonding, according to DIN 6701-2 and for purchasing, assembling and trading welded components, according to EN 15085.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

ULTIMATE: Ultimate Europe, with its headquarters in Amstetten, Austria, is continuing its expansion and is investing € 12 million in the new site. The international system component manufacturer of gangways, automatic door systems and interior fittings for rail vehicles currently employs 125 staff at three locations in the Amstetten area. This new amalgamation will create a modern, future-oriented office complex for up to 220 employees.

In total, new offices, production, research and development areas as well as a product showroom for customers will be created on an area of approx. 18,000 m². Ultimate Europe is investing €12 million in the new site in the cadastral municipality of Leutzmanndorf (St. Georgen am Ybbsfeld).

Together with the regional general contractor Planraum, and under the supervision of architect Jörg Stadlbauer, an environmentally friendly office complex with a heat pump and appr.  4.500 m² photovoltaic system will be built. In addition to green outdoor areas and an atrium, employees will also have their own fitness area and sufficient vehicle e-charging stations with 60dc, which will be supplied with in-house electricity of the photovoltaic system, at their disposal.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

ULTIMATE:

DOORS – Generally Ultimate Europe delivery doors systems for OEM, Refurbishments and Retrofit solutions.

  • Exterior doors such as Plug sliding door, Sliding door and cab doors as well as sliding and folding steps. 
  • Interior doors and wagon end doors with and without fire properties up to EI30 requirements

GANGWAYS – for trams, commuter train, metro, high-speed and very high-speed applications.

We offer a wide range of gangways, suitable for all types of articulated and non-articulated vehicles, which can be equipped with: folding bellows, single corrugated bellows, double corrugated bellows, interior paneling, floor systems (bridge plate, chain bridge, rotable floor), air ducts or cable support systems, compact upper and lower articulation systems for light rail.

INTERIORS

Due to our wide spectrum of products, ULTIMATE is able to offer its clients interior solutions from engineering to the finished product for complete “Total interior”.

Ultimate offers considerable expertise in the manufacturing of GRP parts, thermoplastic parts and aluminium, sandwich construction, super lightweight solutions (Prepreg). Ultimate operates their own mould production for GRP products, which are checked by using state-of-the-art 3D measuring instruments.

Custom made interior design: Single products or complete solutions – we develop for your desires, your technical specifications.

Various material technologies, fast construction concepts and flexible logistics routines are our outstanding strengths.

Products are: Door covers and voutes, handrails, sidewall and partition panels, driver desk, tables, waste bins, seat boxes, seats, luggage racks, ceiling, lighting, intelligent light control.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

ULTIMATE: Ultimate is an international player in the railway market. We deliver products to all big car builders worldwide like Alstom, Bombardier, Siemens, CAF, Skoda, and so on. Furthermore, we also realize projects with the big European operators like Deutsche Bahn or Swiss Railway and many others.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

ULTIMATE: Big market trends in railway are becoming more environmentally friendly – which means energy saving solutions and recycling. Furthermore, weight saving technologies are a must to lower the axle loads of the trains. Also, there is a trend towards localization in the respective country to source and produce the product in that country where it finally should also be operated in.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

ULTIMATE: Our R&D is constantly developing new products in close cooperation with the sales team coming from customers’ demands. New light weight doors systems, optimized materials for the gangways and super light weight material for the interiors are only small excerpts. A lot of innovations can be seen on the next Innotrans in 2022.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2022?

ULTIMATE: Starting from mid of 2022, we expect a normalizing of the industry again. Which means that logistic and supply chains all over the world shifting back into a normal and reliable mode of business. For the tenders we are expecting an increase in new tenders again, as the governments all over the world have spent billions in terms of mobility. Now those tenders are published and need to be executed.
