INTERVIEW WITH VEOLIA WATER TECHNOLOGIES

Veolia Water Technologies provides the complete range of services required to design, build, maintain and upgrade water and wastewater treatment facilities and systems for industrial clients and public authorities.

Part of Veolia Water Technologies group, Evaled develops technological standard solutions for water and wastewater treatment, vacuum evaporators.

Within the company the industrial design & build division develops the machines with the support of the expert and qualified internal laboratory and process department and the service department offers a comprehensive after-sales service including consulting, maintenance, analysis, water treatment chemicals, and temporary mobile units.

Interview with Giovanni Silvestri, Sales Director at Veolia Water Technologies.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Giovanni Silvestri: We produce machines for the industrial waste water treatments. The core business is given by the EVALED evaporators used to treat almost all the industrial waste waters. EVALED evaporators safely and naturally realize the separation of the water portion of the waste stream from the pollutants that can be then disposed of.

As a result, the original solution, that can be of quite different types, is divided in two streams: a more diluted one, called distillate, and a more concentrated solution (concentrate).

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

G.S: New products are developed with a focus on digital, on connectivity, on remote monitoring and operation with more modern interfaces, more in line with actual web design and language. We are also working to complete the range of equipment which are complementary to our evaporators to increase their functionalities and their applications. There is also a continuous focus on sustainability and improvements are ongoing to mitigate the aspects that have impacts on climate change (reduction of emissions etc).

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

G.S: We produce 3 families of evaporator, 3 different technologies to meet different water treatment needs, with distillate production capacities from 0.1 to 120 m3/day.

EVALED PC | Heat pump, designed to offer flexibility and superior reliability

EVALED AC | Hot/cold water, ideal when waste thermal energy and cold water are available on site (cogeneration)

EVALED RV | Mechanical vapour recompression, engineered for the treatment of large wastewater flowrates.

Our evaporators can be made with different manufacturing materials: AISI 316, Superduplex, Nickel Alloy, Teflon SiC; the selection depends on corrosion resistance, to treat even the most aggressive effluents.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

G.S: The market is still in expansion. Not only because there are new productions with consequently new needs but also because of new stringent regulamentations that can being met by the use of EVALED evaporators in combination with other ancillary technologies or as a stand alone solution.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

G.S: There are markets, such as the F&B, Pharma and Transportation that are keep growing, while other markets are stable.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

G.S: We have launched the first model of the series based on recompression of vapour technology (EVALED RV) with a full approach of digitalization, connection, web interface. We have also renewed the crystallizers series by improving operability and performance because the tendency is to have wastewaters more and more concentrated and the request is to push the recovery really till the last drop.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2022?

G.S: It is really unpredictable. We started very well after a very good 2021. But the conflicts in Ukraine have slow down the investments. This uncertain period brings the wastewater treatment, unfortunately for the heart, in a second position. I personally believe that the climate change should be the priority for each one of us.
