Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
Klaus Lambertz: By using our software tools, serious problems in our customers’ software products can be eliminated. Our products are therefore mainly used in safety-critical software development, i.e. in areas where errors can cause great damage – even to people. Examples here are aviation, the automotive industry and medical devices. No one would get on an airplane whose software has not been adequately tested. No one would use a car where the software for a brake system is programmed incorrectly.
Of course, our software testing tools are also useful for companies that do not work in these highly critical areas. After all, good software quality is also desired for coffee machines or air conditioners.
E.E: What’s the news about new products?
K.L: Software testing tools must be easy to use, and the generated reports must be easy to understand and also be meaningful. Therefore, the latest version 10.0 of our code coverage analyzer Testwell CTC++ has a completely revised HTML report. The desired information can be configured in such a way that it is easy to understand. The tool provides meaningful information for security audits and certifications.
E.E: What are the ranges of products?
K.L: With Testwell CTC++, we offer a code coverage analyzer that can be used to prove that software has been fully tested. This verification is mandatory for safety-critical software (aviation, automotive, etc.) to ensure the highest quality and thus enable the certification of the respective products. Testwell CTC++ can be used for all programs written in the programming languages C, C++, Java and C#. Testwell CTC++ has been used for over thirty years. The tool is one of the technically leading code coverage analyzers. Customers in over 40 countries worldwide rely on it.
Testwell CMT++ is a tool for measuring code complexity. When writing code, the probability of introducing errors increases with high code complexity. For this reason, software developers should pay attention to a manageable complexity of their code.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?
K.L: Software is in almost all products today. Everywhere, machines and processes are controlled by computer programs. Even in the private sphere, software has become indispensable. Smart watches, cell phones, automated kitchen appliances and consumer electronics are our daily companions. The scope of the software is growing continuously. Good software quality is important and will become even more important in the future. The market for software testing tools will continue to grow disproportionately.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
K.L: Until recently, the focus was on functional safety. The aim of functional safety is to protect people or the environment from malfunctions of a product.
Nowadays, many products (and the software they contain) are connected with the internet and can be influenced from the outside. There is high risk that malware can be infiltrated, if the software has security problems. So-called attack security can provide a remedy here. The software needs to be checked for security vulnerabilities. Functional safety and security are equally important. There is currently a need to catch up specially to avoid cyber-attacks. The software tools required for this will will become more important in the future.
