MATTRESSTEK, MACHINERY FOR THE MATTRESS INDUSTRY

With 40+ years experience, MattressTek makes programmed automation machinery for the manufacturing sector, including product and component processing and material handling, to prevent and solve problems, streamline and maximise production, ensure efficiency, reduce and prevent wastage of matierals and time and maximise volume of output.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

MattressTek: We serve the mattress and bed manufacturing sectors, as well as that of foam processing and management of materials and springs. We design, build, test and install the machinery ourselves, with our own in-house team, and have customers across the globe – UK, Europe, USA, Mexico, Australia and Asia. We have won awards for our export and international trade, innovation and growth.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

MattressTek: Many of our machines are made as bespoke solution to a problem that manufacturers have been experiencing, without being able to find an effective, cost-effective, reasonable method, with service and warranty included.

It is a new way of doing what some others do which may not necessarily be available in or from the UK. It is therefore new market-leading.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

MattressTek: We started in the provision of sewing and stitching machinery and a handful of conveyors for roating, turning, flipping, slitting and manoeuvring products and materials but have advanced our growth into a wide selection of straight-line and multi-directional, belt and roller driven conveyors, as well as automated systems for stuffing, stacking, rolling, notching, folding and stamping panels, labels and borders for use in the make-up of mattresses.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

MattressTek: We have taken the decision to diversify our offering, to provide bespoke automation machinery for other areas of manufacturing and processing, such as logistics, textiles, packaging and, alongside our existing customer base of bed and mattress making.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

MattressTek: Whilst we have seen some companies in manufacturing close and struggle, we have been lucky to sustain our customer-base and fulfil orders through them, many of which have been referrals, both internal and cross-industry. We attended three international trade shows and have had an online presence at other exhibitions, where we gleamed a variety of enquiries, for example, our roll slitter can be used in the processing, slitting and rolling of fabric like curtains, carpet and we have an enquiry about window tinting film. Our Roll Pack can compress and roll springs or foam unto paper or plastic packaging and our stacker and conveyors can be used in a multitude of factories, including loading on and off lorries and trucks, storage on racking or shelving and we have also been able to provide parts, repairs and servicing following the taking on of a specialist sewing machine technician and programming engineer.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

MattressTek:

  • Roll Pack (more compact / smaller footprint)
  • Shuttle conveyors (small in UK and large in US)
  • Waste processing conveyor
  • Full automation production line (7th installed for customer sites across the US. Incorporating 66 machines)
  • Increased production and efficiency by 95%, allowing them to process more than 450 mattresses on each 8-hour shift
  • Chain conveyor

E.E: What estimations do you have for the rest of 2023?

MattressTek: We are in the running for 3 industry awards, in 5 categories and will continue to grow and expand our range to meet and anticipate the needs and demands of the industries we serve.
