MAURERFREUND, THE WORLD OF TROWELS. SINCE 1856.

Maurerfreund has been a beacon of quality and innovation since its founding in 1856 in Germany. The company specializes in the production of high-quality trowels and smoothing trowels, serving the diverse needs of construction professionals. Over the 165 years, they’ve consistently raised the bar by setting new standards in trowel and smoothing trowel manufacturing through continuous development and groundbreaking innovations, but also stand for continuity.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

MAURERFREUND: Our primary focus revolves around the meticulous crafting of premium trowels and smoothing trowels. These tools play a pivotal role in a wide array of construction tasks, from masonry work to plastering. By concentrating our efforts on this specialized niche, we’ve dedicated our resources to perfecting the art and science of trowel production.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

MAURERFREUND: We have recently introduced an innovative product to our lineup – the “Comfort Trowel”. This groundbreaking tool combines ergonomic design with precision engineering and high-performance materials, offering construction professionals a comfortable and efficient experience. The thoughtfully designed handle reduces strain on the user’s hand and wrist, making it ideal for extended use for every hand size. Furthermore, our customers benefit from an extremely light weight, which we achieve through the processing of high-performance carbon fiber for the handle component.

The advanced blade design ensures exceptional performance, resulting in smoother finishes and improved productivity on construction projects. The Comfort Trowel exemplifies Maurerfreund’s dedication to enhancing both product quality and user experience in the construction tools industry.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

MAURERFREUND: We are producing and offering trowels for all masons, plasterers, drywallers, tilers and painters all over the world. Our trowels are crafted using various types of steel, carefully selected based on the specific requirements of the task at hand on the construction site. These trowels are not one-size-fits-all. We understand that craftsmen have unique preferences. That’s why we provide various handle options, including leather, cork, wood, and plastic, ensuring that every craftsman can find the tool that best suits their individual demands and preferences.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

MAURERFREUND: Despite claims that product innovation in our field had reached its limits, our recent introduction of the Comfort Trowel proves the opposite. We believe in approaching product design from the end customer’s perspective, constantly seeking ways to enhance tool performance and user experience.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

MAURERFREUND: There are several points that arise due to the many changes. In the product context the customers place more value on ergonomics and pay attention to longevity and quality for workmanship. In addition, the topic of sustainability is now increasingly coming up.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

MAURERFREUND: We are convinced that our newest innovation, the Comfort Trowel, is the most innovative product. We are proud, that we achieved this innovation together with our long-time partner Super Prof from the Netherlands.

The design is unique and through the new connection between the handle and the blade, namely a high-performance adhesive, we can use our special stainless-steel alloy without the negative effects of traditional welding methods, which stress the blade due to heat impact.

E.E: What estimations do you have for the rest of 2023?

MAURERFREUND: We think we are all suffering from the increased interest costs. We are optimistic about an improvement and are still looking forward to the year positively. We trust in our partners, who ultimately always find solutions in the interests of the customers. All in all, there is always a need to build and renovate, ensuring a positive outlook for our industry.
