AS-PL is an European company that operates in the field of supplying parts and electrical components for vehicles. The company was established in 1992 in Gdańsk under the name Auto-Starter and cooperates with aftermarket distributors and wholesalers of spare parts and accessories for vehicles from about 100 countries all over the world. AS-PL offers more than 24,000 different alternators, starters, and parts with a total of almost 610,000 reference numbers in order to provide customers with a wide selection of original products and their replacements at favourable prices.
The offered products include parts and components for passenger cars, lorries, agricultural machines, boats, motorcycles, and for the industrial market. Goods offered by the company undergo strict testing procedures and meet the highest requirements in relation to their assembly and technical parameters. All alternators and starters offered by the company are tested using specialist machinery. The test results are included in the product packaging.
The company has a developed net of branch offices and warehouses in Europe – AS-PL UK Ltd. operating on the British market, AS-PL ITALIA S.R.L. in Italy, and AS-PL ELECTRICOS ROTATIVOS S.L. in Spain.
Easy Engineering: What are newest products in your range?
AS-PL: We are increasing our portfolio of alternators, starters, and parts constantly and comply with the new technologies in the automotive industry. Since the beginning of the year, we have expanded it with over 300 alternators and starters (also remanufactured ones) and 750 different parts for them. Our offer includes products for combustion engines including the start-stop ones, as well as intended for hybrid engines. In 2023 we added a new range of products – NOX sensors.
E.E: Which are the most innovative / trending products and what special features do they have?
AS-PL: Our most trending products are remanufactured alternators and starters. The remanufacturing of alternators and starters takes place in the Production Plant using advanced devices, in accordance with high-quality norms and assembly standards for assembling devices using new parts. The process is carried out to minimize its negative impact on the environment.
The interest of customers in remanufactured products is not weakening, on the contrary, it is increasing. In the last few years, we have recorded significant increases in sales of the number of remanufactured products (approximately 53%). This situation is currently affected by raging inflation and rising prices or difficulties in the availability of raw materials in the automotive industry. The policy of the European Union has an influence also. This makes remanufactured products a very popular and cost-effective alternative to buying new parts. AS-PL records the increase in the sales of remanufactured products every year. As a result, the range of models of regenerated alternators, starters, and parts has been expanding every year. The possibilities of assembling these products in the company’s Production Plant are also increasing and currently, it is about 15,000 units per month. In addition, the return of so-called cores for the remanufacturing process is not required.
Additionally, the novelties included in our offer this year – NOX sensors. The sensors are responsible for the constant measurement of nitrogen oxide concentrations in exhaust gases and are a very important element of the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system.
E.E: How important are these features for the users in their work?
AS-PL: From an ecological point of view, the customer who buys remanufactured parts reduces the amount of waste (without remanufacturing, such a product would end up in a landfill). In addition, it also reduces the consumption of valuable mineral resources (like iron, copper, magnesium, steel, or aluminium), water, and electricity, which are needed less to remanufacture the product than to produce a new part. This point of view is in line with the assumptions of the Green Deal policy and the circular economy. From an economic point of view, a remanufactured product is a cost-effective alternative to purchasing a new product. Each AS-PL remanufactured product has a 2-year warranty.
E.E: How do your new products / services differ from others on the market?
AS-PL: Goods offered by the company undergo strict testing procedures using specialist machinery and meet the highest requirements in relation to their assembly and technical parameters. There is no piece of alternator or starter that leaves our Production Plant without thorough tests. The test results are included in the product packaging.
Our remanufactured products are an affordable alternative to buying new parts and reflect the ecological approach to the automotive. They are of high quality and have a 2-year warranty, like the new products. All components used in the process of remanufacturing are carefully and meticulously selected and tested. The process itself is constantly improved by us and, most importantly, it saves valuable mineral resources as well as electricity and water.
E.E: What new products / solutions are you going to launch in the future?
AS-PL: We monitor the automotive market on an ongoing basis. Our products reflect and will reflect the current trends, whether for hybrid, electric, or hydrogen cars or others that will appear in the future.
E.E: What industries do you think will grow in 2024?
AS-PL: Regarding the automotive industry, the sector for hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles as well as the spare parts for them should grow in 2024. The industry of remanufactured spare parts should grow also. All this is in reference, inter alia, to European Union regulations. An ecological approach to the automotive is more and more popular among customers and they can profit from the purchase of the remanufactured products.
Additionally, ideas for engines other than the hybrid and electric ones will be developed. The market for the products for combustion engines will be fine as these vehicles still constitute the vast majority of cars on the road and will be an important part of the automotive market for many years to come.
