Pietro Galliani is an Italian company that stems from an industrial tradition of over 120 years. Thanks to continuous investments in research and development, the company is now one of the market leaders in the production of ultra-thin metal foils. They roll, laminate and cut foils to achieve the best solution for each specific requirement.
Interview with Marcello Cassanelli, Sales Director at Pietro Galliani Spa.
Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
Marcello Cassanelli: Our products find space in numerous applications related to the world of electronics, electrification and energy transition. In particular, we serve the sector of electrical fuses, batteries, heating elements, cable shielding and the medical sector. In fields ranging from automotive to aerospace, passing through telecommunications and healthcare.
E.E: What’s the news about new products/services?
M.C: One of the cornerstones of our company is the customization of products to meet the needs of customers. This predisposition allows us to continuously develop new products and solutions. It is precisely from these premises that the latest addition to our products related to the world of fuse elements has been developed, namely the Bimetal, a special combination of silver, copper and copper alloys that enables high performance at competitive condition.
E.E: What are the ranges of products/services?
M.C: Mainly, we offer 2 product lines: bare and laminated. We provide coupled products in copper (and copper alloys) and aluminum with standard and special polymers up to 5 layers. And plain rolled products in silver or copper with thicknesses starting from 8 microns, thanks to our recognized expertise in the art of rolling.
E.E: What is the state of the market where you are currently active?
M.C: Despite the latest global crisis we have managed to maintain a supply chain that allows us to meet all the demands coming from a still very active market. The first months have indeed been characterized by growing orders and new opportunities.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
M.C: The applications related to the electrical and electronic industries are increasingly characterized by the miniaturization of components, presenting significant challenges that we are addressing by investing in new machinery and expertise to keep pace with market demands. Another market trend in which we are playing a leading role is the „energy transition”, as copper (a central metal in electrification processes) is at the core of our product development projects.
E.E: What are the most innovative products/services marketed?
M.C: Bimetal in Copper or Brass in combination with Silver, this is the result of intensive research and development work among our specialist technicians in metal rolling, produced through a fully in-house process. Available in various configurations: Through-lay, In-lay, Edge-Lay, Over-lay, and Multilayer. Our production process offers significant competitive advantages such as the constant section of the silver tracks through the thickness and excellent resistance to oxidation of the interface between the metals.
E.E: What estimations do you have for the beginning of 2024?
M.C: For the first quarter, we estimate double-digit growth, mainly thanks to the expansion in the fuse market. Despite uncertainties related to external events, the forecasts give us good reason to hope for another positive year.
