REMU – SCREENING AND CRUSHING BUCKETS & AMPHIBIOUS EXCAVATORS

REMU is a Finnish family-led manufacturing company of innovative earth moving and material handling attachments – screening and crushing buckets & Big Float pontoon undercarriage systems for amphibious excavators. Their products are engineered and manufactured in Finland, in a small town of Ähtäri.

The company has been operating since 1997 and delivers products all over the world. Remu has subsidiary in the U.S.A.

Interview with Pavel Syrtsov, Business Development Manager at REMU.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Pavel Syrtsov: At Remu we care about the environment and through our products are deeply involved in its preservation and restoration.  Our priority as an equipment manufacturer is to design and build machines that can be operated in the most efficient manner. Equipment and tools that we design and manufacture are used in various industries from recycling, soil improvement to dredging and environmental restoration.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

P.S: At Remu we are continuously developing our products. Big Float range has been recently expanded with a new, larger size amphibious undercarriage that fits 35t excavators. Screening buckets will see a new type of rotors soon to process certain types of materials even quicker. Stay tuned.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

P.S: We specialize in two major product lines:

Material processing tools: screening, mixing, and crushing buckets. We convert excavators, loaders, and other construction equipment into mobile material processing plants, used in preparation of topsoil, composting and recycling, among many other applications.

The other product line is Big Float pontoon undercarriage system – an innovative tracked undercarriage, that transforms conventional excavator into an amphibious machine. With Big Float ultra-low ground pressure, excavators get access and carry out work at the most challenging environments, such as wetlands, coast lines, landlocked ponds, or dredged material placement sites.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

P.S: Recycling is a rapidly growing market worldwide. With limited resources and ever developing concerns about the environment: collecting, re-using, or recycling of materials is a growing trend. The range of Remu screening, mixing, and crushing buckets is widely used around the world to process material efficiently on site, saving the cost of transporting it to waste collection stations.

Restoration and preservation of the environment is another growing market where we are active with Big Float. Around the world coastal wetlands are declining, shorelines experience erosion and fragile habitats like floodplains, mangroves, seagrasses, saltmarshes, arctic wetlands, peatlands etc. are under threat. Remu Big Float amphibious excavators makes it possible to carry out restoration works in a safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly manner.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

P.S: I would like to call it up for a Big Float amphibious excavator: because of the decades of field experience, the amount of engineering put into its design and manufacturing and as a result its unique qualities and capabilities.

Big Float not only gives access to environments previously inaccessible to any other types of equipment, it has also been proven to be an efficient and safe piece of equipment to carry out necessary works. Restoration of wetlands and natural habitats, strengthening of coastal resilience and clearing waterways – Big Floats make the least possible impact on fragile environments. Land reclamation and flood prevention works, maintenance of toxic material placement sites and reversing the damage from spills – Big Float allows for fast mobilization on site, safe and efficient operation.

E.E: What estimations do you have for 2023?

P.S: 2023 is a challenging year across the construction machinery industry, with many projects being put on hold and overall trend on holding onto new investments. On the other hand, recycling and environmental restoration efforts do not stop, quite the opposite – they grow. With only customers being more open to looking at novel solutions, alternative, more efficient ways of doing the same work. With both, range of material processing buckets and Big Float amphibious excavators, designed to optimize the work, make operation more efficient and therefore save costs, we see continuing growth of interest in our products. We remain optimistic and keep a positive outlook on our sales for 2023 and beyond.
