SAVVY DATA SYSTEMS – REFINE YOUR DATA INTO VALUABLE INSIGHTS

Savvy Data Systems was born with a strong digital culture and aims to help industrial companies in their digital transformation, turning their data into valuable information and their information into business.

It is an industry-focused company specialising in advanced monitoring, data analytics and artificial intelligence services that technologically drive the strategy, development and deployment of industrial digitalisation for its customers.

The company has a well-established network of industrial partners (DANOBATGROUP, Fagor Automation, Fagor Arrasate, IPF) and research centres with which it collaborates. It is therefore at the forefront of digital manufacturing support technologies, essential for the factories of the future and the present, and provides the necessary know-how to meet digital challenges in all types of industrial sectors.

Interview with Fernando Sáenz, Director GeneralDirector General of SAVVY DATA SYSTEMS SL.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Fernando Sáenz: Savvy Data Systems is involved in the entire data lifecycle and has a proprietary platform that gives it the flexibility to fulfill the specific needs of each customer.

We have identified two value propositions based on the same technology. The first is for industrial machinery and equipment manufacturers with hundreds or thousands of assets around the world. We offer them a suite of tools designed to efficiently manage globally distributed equipment data, enabling advanced support services and the creation of new digital products and services.

The second is for manufacturing plants. In this case, we have an analytics tool called Savvy Manufacturing Intelligence, which allows data collected from machines, processes and other plant systems to be combined in a simple, code-free way. Once this tool is in place, many of our customers decide to kickstart specific data science projects, which they entrust to our team of engineers and mathematicians.

E.E: What’s the news about new products/services?

F.S: We have recently presented Savvy Fog, a way to easily manage the entire IoT & Edge ecosystem from a single point of control, in a scalable and cyber-secure way. Savvy Fog technology is deployed on-premise, eliminating dependencies on external or Cloud environments.

E.E: What are the ranges of products/services?

F.S: We have an end-to-end Edge + Cloud / Fog solution, the Savvy Industrial Platform, which covers the entire data lifecycle, from capture to processing to analysis.

Data capture

Data is collected via an Edge device, Savvy SmartBox, which connects in a pre-defined way to most data sources, whether they are controllers (PLC, CNC, others) or in-house systems (ERP, MES, CMMS, CMMS).

If required, we carry out field work such as sensor installation, machine retrofitting or touch screen installation.

Data processing

Data is standardised and normalised in the Edge. The data can be processed in the Edge itself using algorithms and the resulting insights and data can be provided back to the source itself, to our Cloud and/or to the customer’s DataLake, depending on the requirements.

Data analysis

We have already developed a number of analytics solutions. Our analytics team or customers themselves can create new advanced dashboards using no-code development tools.

Unlike traditional Business Intelligence tools, our Manufacturing Intelligence is able to handle the large volumes of data typical of industrial processes, with an almost instantaneous response capability.

We also have a team of data scientists who lead & develop various projects based on artificial intelligence for specific customer challenges.

E.E: What is the state of the market where you are currently active?

F.S: In our more than 10 years of experience in this field, we have seen an almost infinite number of ways to approach a digitisation process. Larger companies tend to approach it as a more strategic, medium-term development project, with clearly defined goals and steps. SMEs tend to be more reactive. It is true that most of them already have some degree of digitisation of their internal processes, they have at least some kind of ERP, MES or similar, but they usually suffer from a lack of strategic vision in the medium and long term. Their daily reality, which is fast and changing, forces them to stay in the short-term mindset. However, we have learnt that it is not the size of the company that determines the success of the process.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

F.S: We’re deeply embedded in the industrial sector, focusing on transformative digitisation strategies. Currently, several key market trends are shaping our approach and the solutions we offer:

Increased adoption of IoT and Edge Computing: there’s a significant shift towards deploying Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and Edge Computing in manufacturing. Companies are looking to harness real-time data from the shop floor to optimise operations, reduce downtime, and improve decision-making processes. Our solutions are designed to leverage these technologies, enabling more efficient data handling and processing at the edge, closer to where data is generated.

Integration of AI and Machine Learning: the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in industrial environments is becoming increasingly common. These technologies are critical for predicting maintenance needs, optimising production schedules, and improving quality control. Our platform integrates AI to provide predictive analytics that help our customers proactively address potential issues and streamline their operations.

Demand for customized and flexible solutions: as industries continue to evolve, there’s a growing need for customisation in digitisation technologies. Businesses want solutions that can be tailored to their specific needs and can scale as they grow. At Savvy, we focus on providing modular solutions that allow for high levels of customisation and flexibility.

Sustainability and efficiency: there’s a growing emphasis on sustainability within the manufacturing sector. Companies are not only looking to improve efficiency but are also aiming to reduce their environmental impact. Our technologies support this by optimising energy usage and reducing waste through more precise and controlled manufacturing processes.

Cybersecurity: with the rise in data-centric manufacturing operations, cybersecurity has become a paramount concern. Our solutions incorporate robust security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure the integrity of our customers’ operations.

In summary, the market trends highlight a move towards more integrated, intelligent, and sustainable manufacturing processes. At Savvy, we are committed to leading this change by developing cutting-edge solutions that address these evolving needs

E.E: What estimations do you have for the beginning of 2024?

F.S: As we look towards the beginning of 2024, Savvy Data Systems is poised to navigate a landscape marked by rapid technological evolution and changing industrial demands.
