SAVVY® Telematic Systems AG, headquartered in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, is a leading provider of innovative telematics, sensor and software solutions that make an important contribution to digitalization in the chemical and logistics industries. Their aim is to increase value creation in these companies through efficient work and logistics processes. SAVVY® combines high-tech telematics system solutions for use in rail freight cars, (tank) containers, IBCs, vehicles or machines with sophisticated telematics technology and a process-oriented state-of-the-art portal.

The range of services also includes comprehensive process consulting and intelligent process design around telematics and sensor technology as well as the digitalization of business processes in chemical, industrial and logistics companies. Since May 2014, SAVVY® has been a second-tier subsidiary of the SDAX-listed INDUS Holding Group (www.indus.de). The resulting financial stability is unique in the market and ensures investment protection for SAVVY® customers as well as absolute neutrality in data management.

Easy Engineering: What are newest products in your range?

SAVVY: With the launch of the new solar-powered SAVVY® CargoTrac-S in fall of 2023, SAVVY® combines the high-end autonomous telematics device with industry-specific application software and the innovative business intelligence-based SAVVY® Synergy Enterprise Portal, also available in our relaunched mobile App for remote data access.

E.E: Which are the most innovative / trending products and what special features do they have?

SAVVY: SAVVY® CargoTrac-S expands our hardware portfolio with a functionality that is unique on the market: Temperature class T6, in combination with numerous wired and wireless industrial sensors as well as ITSS IF2, opens up completely new possibilities and use cases for our customers.

E.E: How important are these features for the users in their work?

SAVVY: SAVVY’s latest use case “Smart Bogie” clearly highlights the benefits of intelligent telematics.

Here, the SAVVY® CargoTrac-S is combined with the SAVVY® SenseGateway-ExR-2DMS as a sensor HUB with four wired connection options directly on the bogie. The possible sensor technology includes:

  • Temperature sensors to determine axle bearing temperature for increased safety in daily traffic;
  • Brake abrasion sensors for optimization of maintenance processes and cost savings;
  • Vibration measurements for improved flat spot detection;
  • Possibility of up to two SAVVY® LoadCell-Ex on one SAVVY® SenseGateway-ExR-2DMS.

The SAVVY® LoadCell-Ex can be installed quickly and cost-effectively by simply clamping or screwing it to the bogie. Weighing, load shifting or full/empty detection thus become a simple matter.

E.E: How do SAVVY® differ from others on the market?

SAVVY: For SAVVY®, our customers and their challenges are always in the center of our purpose. We’ve lived this approach since the company was founded and our long-standing customer relationships are our greatest reward.

Besides implementing the latest technologies such as ITSS IF2 and market safety requirements such as temperature class T6, our customers get absolute traceability for means of transportation and transportation units.

We support in automating the administrative processes and increase the productivity of transport processes and exploit further potential by developing new, sophisticated and value-added services for our customers or associated business units, together with our customers.

It is not only our longstanding expertise, technology know-how and the integration of state-of-the-art functionality that differentiates us, it is our employees and customers that make the difference in strong business partnerships.

E.E: What impact has product innovation on your customers?

SAVVY: The digital transformation and innovation culture is fundamentally important for the future viability of our industry. Especially for our customers, such as manufacturing companies, pharmaceutical and chemical logistics companies or for example suppliers that use tank containers or freight wagons, the COVID 19 crisis highlights the need and the impact.

The disruption of global supply chains as a result of the pandemic and other political circumstances requires companies to react flexibly. Those who are now in a position to redesign their products and processes in a timely manner have considerable advantages, for example, on the cost front. Digital innovation creates the prerequisites.

Beyond the current crisis, long-term trends also make transformation necessary, such as the market entry of new competitors, changes in consumer behaviour, regulatory developments, decarbonisation, sustainability and the energy transition. There will be less demand for oil as an energy source in the future, and materials will be increasingly recycled. The change in the automotive industry towards electromobility is changing the demand profile as well. For the future positioning of our customers, the increased price volatility of basic materials and the current global geopolitical upheavals must also be taken into account.

From our point of view, the innovation is being driven primarily by the key trends towards safe transport, intelligent process integration, AR and data science as well as data interaction in form of open standards and platforms. Our customers want to be innovative. With innovation comes more safety, transparency and effectiveness. And we as SAVVY® are more than happy to be part of this journey.

E.E: What industries do you think will grow in 2024?

SAVVY: We observe that various industries, such as the chemical, petrochemical, and steel industries, use LNG as a fuel and feedstock. In general, LNG can help reduce CO2 emissions and promote the transition to renewable energy. This development is very exciting for us and we are very much looking forward to making our contribution to a more sustainable logistics world.

E.E: What products/solutions do you provide for these industries?

SAVVY: It is critical that LNG is transported safely and efficiently to ensure a continuous gas supply. This requires careful planning and execution, taking into account all safety aspects and using the high-quality transport equipment mentioned above. Because it is a potentially hazardous commodity (high tank pressure and flammability), LNG shipments must be carefully monitored to ensure safe delivery and to identify and address any problems during transport.

One way to implement this is to use cargo tracking and monitoring systems such as the SAVVY® CargoTrac-S or the SAVVY® CargoTrac-ExR-M1. This system provides real-time monitoring of the location and condition (e.g., pressure and temperature) of the shipment, which guarantees the user a quick response time to any problems. In addition, SAVVY® CargoTrac-S increases cost efficiency, as well as the efficiency of transport in general, by enabling tracking of the transport progress. This makes it possible to react to transport delays and, optimally, to prevent non-compliance with the ETA. Maximum protection of people, equipment and the environment is our solution for these industries.
