INTERVIEW WITH LABORATOIRES DUJARDIN-SALLERON

Laboratoires Dujardin-Salleron conceive, manufacture and distribute analysis instruments and measurement devices for oenology and spirits.

The company’s instruments are known worldwide for their quality, reliability and the accuracy of their measurements. Relying on traditional manufacturing methods, supported by a dynamic and innovative R&D team, Laboratoires Dujardin-Salleron have been providing the reference equipment for over 160 years.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

Laboratoires Dujardin-Salleron: Mainly oenology and spirits. The company keeps innovating and developing to bring its instruments in other fields such as: liqueurs, spirits, ciders, beers, spirits and other distilled beverages, vinegars and mustards, kombucha, pharmacology, perfumery, printing and some food industries, in particular fruits and vegetables.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

Laboratoires Dujardin-Salleron: Shown this year at SIMEI in Milan and at VINITECH in Bordeaux, the DS Iodo and DS Titra complete our range for the analysis of free and total SO2, as well as pH and total acidity.

Also designed to quickly and easily measure free and total SO2, the DS Iodo provides additional comfort of use thanks to an integrated syringe pump. The results are displayed directly on the screen and saved in the device. The zeroing of the syringe is automatic and allows you to measure immediately the next sample.

DS Titra is an instrument conceived to determine the pH, and to measure total acidity directly, or volatile acidity after extraction. It avoids the difficult estimation of the colored turn at the end of the titration, and thus gives optimal accuracy and reproducibility of the results.

We also conceived a new CO2 detector. The DS CO2 continuously measures the CO2 in the air thanks to its high-precision measurement sensor. Operating with a visual (LED indicators) and audible (single, double, or permanent beep) alarm system, it guarantees the safety of cellar operators while ensuring an optimal level of protection.

This year, we have also developed a vacuum distillation unit. The design and the technology of this instrument constitute a true innovation made in France on the spirits market but also cosmetics or even gastronomy. We are actually in the test phase.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

Laboratoires Dujardin-Salleron: Laboratoires Dujardin-Salleron provide a large range of specialized products and services:

  • the Dujardin-Salleron equipment – stills, ebulliometers, titration devices… – a mix of elegance and functionality;
  • the timeless instruments that became essential – mustimeters, alcoholmeters, wine thieves… Their reliability and long-lasting quality never stop seducing;
  • the necessary articles for your day-to-day analyses;
  • a selection of products from renowned manufacturers along our own production;
  • technical services: training, calibration, maintenance, etc.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

Laboratoires Dujardin-Salleron: By working on a niche market, we do not know any market cycle. Our products keep evolving though with technology to comply with markets trends (design, ergonomics, IT features).

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

Laboratoires Dujardin-Salleron: Our worldwide customers have similar needs, but their purchase strategy is more based on budget and company capacity rather than needs or trends. We observe that more and more people are attracted by connected devices, with possibility to check their production flow on a distance and record data, what is partially possible in our activity.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

Laboratoires Dujardin-Salleron: Our vacuum distillation unit LDiStill makes possible the formulation of new products with very intuitive HCI, able to adjust and record parameters, to reproduce or modify a recipe.
